Chauffeur Service in the United Kingdom

1-12 passengers For business
Trusted by professionals at
One-Way Service
One pick-up and one destination: Heathrow to a hotel in Mayfair, Manchester Airport to MediaCityUK, Edinburgh Airport to a hotel in the Old Town. For an airport pick-up, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; for a departure, you set the pick-up time yourself.
Round-Trip Service
Outbound and return go into one booking, and you set both pick-up times yourself. It suits a Heathrow arrival with a flight home at the end of the stay, a day at Royal Ascot or Wimbledon from your hotel, or a trip from Edinburgh to St Andrews for The Open. The return matters most in event weeks, when vehicles are taken early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start.
Hourly Service
A working day in the UK can take you from a bank in the City to a meeting in Canary Wharf, or from a morning at Manchester Central to a client at MediaCityUK. Hourly service is booked by time: name where the day begins and ends and how long it lasts, and one chauffeur with one vehicle is yours for those hours. Put the day's appointments in the booking so the chauffeur knows the programme in advance.

Getting Around the United Kingdom

London is the country's main business centre, but not its only one. The City, the historic financial district, and Canary Wharf hold the banks, Mayfair and the West End the hotels and theatres, and King's Cross, beside two main-line stations, is a regenerated business quarter. Outside the capital, Manchester has the Manchester Central convention complex and the media base at MediaCityUK, Birmingham hosts Crufts at the NEC in March 2027, and Edinburgh and Glasgow, 46 miles apart, are Scotland's two business and cultural centres.

One appointment needs only a one-way transfer. When a day holds several meetings in different districts, booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve, and assistants who book for colleagues keep every trip in one account.

If you come by rail, London's main termini include Paddington, King's Cross, Euston and St Pancras International, the London end of Eurostar. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

Some addresses are hard to reach by car. Oxford Street between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street turns pedestrian-only on 26 October 2026, on a trial basis. If your hotel is on or near a street like that, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

Airport Transfers in the United Kingdom

Heathrow is the largest gateway, with a record 84.5 million passengers in 2025, and lies 17 miles from central London, 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes by car. Gatwick handled 42.8 million, Stansted 29.76 million and Luton 17.77 million, while London City Airport is the nearest to the centre, 9 miles away, 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes; it stands in the Royal Docks. Gatwick is 31 miles south of the centre, 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes.

Outside the capital, Manchester Airport, with 32.07 million passengers, is 9 miles from the city centre, 30–40 minutes. Edinburgh Airport is 8 miles from the Scottish capital, 35–50 minutes, and Glasgow Airport 9 miles from its city, 25–35 minutes. Birmingham and Bristol airports are 15 and 9 miles from their cities. The right one depends on your airline and route.

Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For the flight home, leave margin for the drive itself: the figures above are for an ordinary day, and rush hours stretch them. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Day-Trip Travel

Many of Britain's best-known destinations lie within two hours of a big city. From London, Windsor is 23 miles, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Oxford is 60 miles away, 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes, Cambridge 59 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes, and Brighton on the south coast 53 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 25 minutes.

In the north, Manchester is 34 miles from Liverpool, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, and 71 miles from York, 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes. The Lake District National Park, a World Heritage Site, begins at Windermere, 83 miles from Manchester, 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes. In Scotland, Edinburgh to Glasgow is 46 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes to 2 hours, and St Andrews, home of golf, is 53 miles from Edinburgh, 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes.

A booked car takes you from the hotel to the far address, with the luggage in one vehicle. Windsor Castle is still a royal residence and may close without warning, so confirm its opening days before you choose a date. Entry rules matter too: most visitors who need no visa must hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before arriving, while British and Irish citizens are exempt.

Groups, Events & Racing

The summer of 2027 is full of dates that fill hotels and roads. The Chelsea Flower Show runs from 18 to 22 May, Royal Ascot from 15 to 19 June and Wimbledon from 28 June to 11 July. The Open returns to the Old Course at St Andrews on 15–18 July, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe runs from 6 to 30 August, and Notting Hill Carnival fills the August bank holiday weekend. The year opens with the London Marathon, held over two days on 24 and 25 April.

When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If a team lands on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. For a group moving together, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load, so mention golf bags, instrument cases or exhibition boxes when you book.

Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early for these weeks. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your chauffeur service with Bookinglane.

Can I use a chauffeur car instead of a taxi in the UK?

No. In the UK a chauffeur car is licensed as private hire: it carries only passengers who booked in advance and cannot be hailed in the street or wait at a taxi rank. Bookinglane is booked before you travel: you choose the vehicle and the addresses, each transfer has its own confirmation, and for an arrival your flight number sets the pick-up.

Which London airport is nearest the centre of the capital?

London City Airport, 9 miles away, 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes by car; it stands in the Royal Docks. Heathrow is 17 miles, 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes, and Gatwick 31 miles, 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes. Whichever you use, put your terminal and flight number in the booking.

Do I need permission to enter the UK before I travel?

Most visitors who do not need a visa, including Europeans, Americans, Canadians and Australians, need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before departure; British and Irish citizens are exempt. Airlines have refused boarding without one since enforcement began on 25 February 2026. Check the requirements for your nationality on gov.uk.

Which road charges can apply to a journey in the UK?

London has the Congestion Charge in the centre and the Ultra Low Emission Zone across every borough. Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen have low emission zones that ban non-compliant vehicles rather than charge them. Birmingham and Bristol have Clean Air Zones, while Greater Manchester has none. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

When is the busiest time to travel in the UK?

Event weeks and bank holidays. Summer brings the Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Ascot, Wimbledon and the Edinburgh Fringe, and the Christmas season fills London around Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, open from 19 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, and Manchester's Christmas Markets from 6 November to 22 December. Reserve these weeks early, and book your return in the same reservation as the arrival.

What do you need to know about the United Kingdom in 2026–2027?

Oxford Street closes to traffic from 26 October 2026, and trains no longer call at the Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 station, shut on 25 June 2026, so rail passengers change at Terminal 4 or 5. The 2027 London Marathon is held over two days, 24 and 25 April. An ETA is required before travel for most visitors who need no visa; British and Irish citizens are exempt.
