Getting Around Battersea

Battersea is a riverside district in the London Borough of Wandsworth, on the south bank of the Thames opposite Chelsea. Its landmark is Battersea Power Station, built in two stages between 1929 and 1955 and closed in 1983. After a long redevelopment it reopened on 14 October 2022 with shops, restaurants and flats, and Apple moved its London headquarters into the building in 2023. To the east, Nine Elms holds the US Embassy and new office and residential towers; to the west lies Battersea Park.

Two Northern line stations, Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms, opened on 20 September 2021. Clapham Junction, one of the UK's busiest railway stations, is also in Battersea, at its southern end. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

Battersea is outside the Congestion Charge zone. For an apartment at the Power Station or a tower in Nine Elms, send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop. For a day of meetings between Nine Elms, the West End and the City, book by the hour: one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve.

Airport Transfers in Battersea

Heathrow is 17 miles west of Battersea, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. London City Airport is 12 miles east, 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes, out in the Royal Docks; it handled 3.74 million passengers in 2025. Luton Airport is 37 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes to 2 hours, Gatwick 38 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes, and Stansted Airport 41 miles, 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 25 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.

The rail link to Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 has been interrupted since 25 June 2026, when the station there closed, so train passengers change at Terminal 4 or 5. By car, give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks.

Book with your flight number. On landing day, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Battersea, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: allow for the weekday rush hours on the bridges. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Day-Trip Travel from Battersea

Across the river, Chelsea is 2 miles, 15–20 minutes, and the Royal Hospital Chelsea hosts the RHS Chelsea Flower Show from 18 to 22 May 2027. Kensington is 3 miles, 20–30 minutes, for the museums and the Royal Albert Hall in South Kensington.

The Harry Potter sets of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London are 26 miles away, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes. Henley-on-Thames is 36 miles, 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes; Henley Royal Regatta runs from 29 June to 4 July 2027. Canterbury, with its cathedral, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is 63 miles, 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes.

For a regatta day with a drive home in the evening, an hourly booking keeps the same car all day. A one-way transfer suits a weekend in Canterbury; the return is booked on its own.

Groups & Event Travel in Battersea

The restored control room of Battersea Power Station is now a private event venue. If your company holds a dinner or a launch there and the team flies in to Heathrow, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load, display boxes included.

When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If the guests are on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. For an official visit to the US Embassy at Nine Elms, send the full address and the expected time.

Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early in the weeks of the Chelsea Flower Show and the Christmas season. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Chauffeur Service in Battersea

Trusted by professionals at
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Heathrow to a flat at the Power Station when you arrive and back to your terminal when you leave, or Battersea to the Royal Hospital Chelsea for the Flower Show and home in the evening. During Flower Show week, cars on both banks of the river go early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service is booked by time, not by route. Name the address in Battersea where the day starts, the address where it finishes and how many hours you want, and one chauffeur and one car are reserved for you for that time. Share the plan for the day when you book, and the chauffeur will have it in advance. It suits a day of meetings or visits rather than one ride across town.
One-Way Service
One-Way Service covers one journey between two addresses: London City Airport to an apartment in Nine Elms, Clapham Junction station to a hotel by Battersea Park, the Power Station to a dinner in Kensington. For an airport pick-up, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; for a departure, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you get to Battersea Power Station?

By Tube, the Northern line extension has served Battersea Power Station station since 20 September 2021. By car, put the full address, for example your apartment building or the event entrance, in the booking, and the confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

When was Battersea Power Station built?

In two stages: Battersea A in 1929–1935 and Battersea B in 1953–1955. The station stopped generating in 1983 and reopened to the public on 14 October 2022 with shops, restaurants, homes and offices, including Apple's London headquarters.

Is Battersea inside the Congestion Charge zone?

It is not: the zone ends north of the river and at Vauxhall Bridge Road and Kennington Lane, so Battersea and Nine Elms are outside it. The Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every London borough around the clock. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

What do you need to know about Battersea in 2026–2027?

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show, just across Chelsea Bridge, runs from 18 to 22 May 2027; the first two days are for RHS members. Visitors who do not need a visa for the UK, other than British and Irish citizens, must hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they travel.
