Getting Around Windsor
Windsor is a riverside town in Berkshire and the main town of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. At its heart stands Windsor Castle, still a royal home in use; visitors are usually let in from Thursday to Monday, though the gates may shut at short notice. Eton, with its college, lies just across the Thames.
Families come for Legoland Windsor Resort, on the edge of town, about 4 miles from the castle and 25–35 minutes by car. The M4 passes to the north at Junction 6, and the M25 is a few minutes to the east.
The town has two stations. Windsor & Eton Central has a shuttle to Slough, where you change for London Paddington, and Windsor & Eton Riverside has direct trains to London Waterloo. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival. If your hotel or guest house is in the old streets below the castle, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.
For a day that takes in the castle, lunch in Eton and an afternoon at Legoland or in Ascot, booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve.

Airport Transfers to Windsor
Heathrow is Windsor's airport: the terminals are 10 miles east, 30–40 minutes by car. The Terminals 2 and 3 rail station has been shut since 25 June 2026, and the Windsor lines head for Slough or Waterloo rather than the airport, so the car is the one direct link. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks. Luton Airport is 38 miles north, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Gatwick is 45 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes, and Southampton Airport 59 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.
Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Windsor, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: the route joins the M4 or the M25 within minutes, and both slow down in the morning and late-afternoon peaks. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Day-Trip Travel from Windsor
Windsor is a starting point for some classic English days out. Ascot, with its racecourse, is 7 miles south-west, 20–30 minutes. Henley-on-Thames, where the Royal Regatta is rowed each summer, is 17 miles upriver, 40–55 minutes. Oxford, the university city, is 47 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes.
The Cotswolds make a longer outing: Bourton-on-the-Water, one of its best-known villages, is 70 miles, 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes. Stratford-upon-Avon, where Shakespeare was born and where his plays are staged by the RSC, is 88 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 25 minutes.
Combining Oxford and a Cotswold village in one day is easy with an hourly booking, because one driver and one car remain yours until the hotel door. If you are going on to stay elsewhere, a one-way journey covers that drive alone, with any return as a booking of its own.

Groups & Event Travel in Windsor
From 13 to 16 May 2027 the Royal Windsor Horse Show is held on private castle land, and Royal Ascot, a short drive away, follows from 15 to 19 June. Tour parties, riders' teams, sponsors' guests and school groups heading for Legoland all bring people to Windsor in numbers.
When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If a tour party lands on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. For a group that moves as one, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load, from saddlery to pushchairs.
Book these weeks as soon as your dates are known. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early for the Horse Show and Royal Ascot week. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
