Airport Transfers from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Windsor

Trusted by professionals at
One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Terminal 5 to a hotel below the castle walls, Terminal 3 to a guest house in Eton, or a family hotel near Legoland to Terminal 2 for an evening departure. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; for a departure, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: from your Heathrow terminal to a hotel near the castle when you land, and out to Heathrow again on the day you fly home. For Royal Ascot week and the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May, cars around Windsor are spoken for early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at LHR, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

London Heathrow Airport to Windsor: Route and Drive Time

Windsor lies just west of Heathrow, on the far side of the M25, and the drive from the terminals to the town centre is 10 miles, normally 30–40 minutes. The airport and the town are so close that the time depends more on the terminal you leave from and the traffic around the M25 junctions than on the distance itself.

The last part of the ride is decided by where you stay. The old town is gathered around the castle and the streets leading down to the Thames, and Eton is just across the river bridge. Legoland Windsor is on the edge of town, on the road towards Ascot, so a family heading there does not need to cross the centre at all.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. When you book, give the terminal on your ticket and the full address, including the hotel name if you are staying near the castle.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London Heathrow Airport

Heathrow works with four terminals, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks. Since 23 June 2026 Terminal 4 has used a separate pick-up area, because its multi-storey car park closed for redevelopment. Give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

If passport control or baggage reclaim takes longer, there is no need to rush: the pick-up is planned around the landing, not the timetable. Rail is no shortcut to Windsor at the moment: the station under Terminals 2 and 3 is shut, and the town's own lines run via Slough or towards Waterloo.

Arriving at Your Address in Windsor

Windsor is a compact town built around Windsor Castle, a working royal residence that is generally open to visitors from Thursday to Monday and can close at short notice. Hotels, guest houses and restaurants line the streets below the castle walls and along the river.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. If you are staying in Eton, across the Thames, or on the road out to Legoland, the address matters even more, as these are separate routes from the town centre.

With a morning arrival and a castle visit planned for the same day, the chauffeur can take you straight from the terminal to your hotel to leave the bags before you walk up to the castle.

From Windsor Back to London Heathrow Airport

For the drive back, plan by the length of the journey rather than by the clock: 30–40 minutes on an ordinary day, more when the M25 and M4 are busy in the morning or late afternoon. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

At Heathrow, the terminal decides where the car pulls in. Terminal 5 and Terminal 4 are some distance from the central Terminals 2 and 3, so check your ticket and put the departure terminal in the booking.

Two events in Windsor and its neighbour Ascot need extra margin. The Royal Windsor Horse Show takes place in the private grounds of Windsor Castle from 13 to 16 May 2027, and Royal Ascot, at the racecourse a short drive south-west of the town, runs from 15 to 19 June 2027. On those days, allow extra time for the drive to the airport.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How far is Windsor from Heathrow?

The town centre is 10 miles from the Heathrow terminals, normally 30–40 minutes by car, a little longer when the M25 is busy. Give your terminal and the hotel address in the booking.

What if my flight into Heathrow arrives late in the evening?

Not at all. The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time, so a delay moves the pick-up with it. Your flight number in the booking tells the chauffeur which arrival to watch.

Where do I meet my chauffeur at Heathrow?

At the terminal where you land: Terminal 2, 3, 4 or 5. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the forecourts. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Is Windsor in London?

No. Windsor is in Berkshire, in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, just outside Greater London. From Heathrow it is 10 miles by road, much closer than central London.

Our group is staying in Windsor for Royal Ascot. How should we book?

Royal Ascot runs from 15 to 19 June 2027, and each flight should have a transfer of its own; when you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early for that week.

What do you need to know about London Heathrow Airport in 2026–2027?

Terminal 4's multi-storey car park closed on 23 June 2026, and Terminal 4 pick-ups now use a separate area outside the terminal. Rail passengers also lost the station under Terminals 2 and 3, shut on 25 June 2026. Heathrow's public consultation on its expansion plans runs from 27 October to 22 December 2026.
