Getting Around Woolwich
Woolwich is a riverside town in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and the borough council sits in Woolwich Town Hall. For three centuries the Royal Arsenal made and tested munitions here; its riverside buildings are now homes, shops and Woolwich Works, a cultural venue for concerts, comedy and theatre that opened in 2021. Up the hill, the Royal Artillery Barracks face Woolwich Common, and Queen Elizabeth Hospital is on Stadium Road.
Woolwich station opened on the Elizabeth line in 2022 and is in Travelcard Zone 4, with direct trains to Canary Wharf, Liverpool Street and Paddington. Woolwich Arsenal, nearby, has DLR and Southeastern services, and Thames Clippers boats call at Royal Arsenal Pier. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.
The Royal Arsenal estate is laid out around squares and riverside walks, so for a flat there send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go. A day with a hospital appointment, a meeting at the Town Hall and a concert at Woolwich Works can be booked by the hour: one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve.

Airport Transfers in Woolwich
London City Airport sits almost opposite Woolwich on the north bank: 3 miles, 30–40 minutes, because every road route has to cross the Thames. Heathrow is 27 miles west, 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes. Stansted Airport is 35 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes, and Southend Airport 38 miles, also 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes. Gatwick is 43 miles south, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes; with two terminals, North and South, it handled 42.8 million passengers in 2025. The right one depends on your airline and route.
Book with your flight number. Whichever airport you return to, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Woolwich, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: a trip to the north bank uses the Woolwich Ferry, which sails about every 15 minutes, or one of the tunnels further west, and either can add time. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Day-Trip Travel from Woolwich
Welling, to the south-east, is 3 miles, 15–20 minutes. Maidstone, on the River Medway, is 30 miles, 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes, by the A2 and the M20.
Windsor is 32 miles west, 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes, a crossing of the whole capital. Cambridge is 57 miles north, 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes. Portsmouth, with ferries across the Channel and to the Isle of Wight, is 100 miles, 2 hours 10 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes.
A family day at Windsor Castle with the evening drive back to Woolwich keeps one car throughout when it is reserved by the hour. For a ferry from Portsmouth, a one-way transfer takes you and the luggage to the port, and you book the journey back separately.

Groups & Event Travel in Woolwich
Woolwich Works brings touring shows, gigs and festivals into the old Arsenal buildings, and ExCeL is about 7 miles away, 35–50 minutes by car, across the river. For a band and its crew, a choir on tour or a delegation staying by the Royal Arsenal, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; list instruments, staging or exhibition boxes so the vehicle is matched to the load.
When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If performers arrive on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own.
Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early on festival weekends and in the big ExCeL show weeks. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
