Getting Around Islington
Islington is an inner London borough just north of the City. Its centre is Angel, where Upper Street runs north past restaurants, theatres and the Business Design Centre, a venue for exhibitions and fairs. Clerkenwell, in the south of the borough, is a quarter of design studios and offices, and Sadler's Wells, the dance theatre, stands on Rosebery Avenue. Moorfields Eye Hospital is on City Road.
Clerkenwell, south of Pentonville Road and City Road, is inside the Congestion Charge zone; the rest of the borough, including Angel north of those roads, Highbury and Holloway, is outside it. Highbury & Islington station has the Victoria line, the Overground and Great Northern trains, and King's Cross St Pancras, on the borough's western edge, is 2 miles from Angel, 15–20 minutes by car. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

Airport Transfers in Islington
On the map, London City Airport is closest: 10 miles east of Islington, 40–55 minutes through the East End. Heathrow is 20 miles west, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes, as the route crosses central London. Luton Airport is 33 miles, 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, and Stansted Airport 35 miles, also 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.
At Heathrow, the rail station for Terminals 2 and 3 has been closed since June 2026, so a train journey to those terminals now involves a change. A car takes you to the terminal itself.

Hackney, with Shoreditch and Victoria Park, is 3 miles east, 20–30 minutes. Mayfair, for its hotels and Bond Street, is 3 miles, 25–35 minutes across the West End. Highgate, with its cemetery and the edge of Hampstead Heath, is 4 miles north, 25–35 minutes.
Two university cities make full days out. Cambridge is 56 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes, and Oxford is 61 miles, 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes. Parents visiting a college or a team meeting a research partner can leave from the front door.
For an Oxford or Cambridge visit and the drive back to Islington in the evening, an hourly reservation covers the whole day with one car. If you are staying overnight, book a one-way trip out and a second one for the return.
