Airport Transfers from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Islington

Trusted by professionals at
One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Terminal 2 to a studio in Clerkenwell, Terminal 5 to a townhouse in Canonbury, or a flat in Highbury to Terminal 3 for a Virgin Atlantic flight to Boston. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; for a departure, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Terminal 3 to a hotel at Angel when the art fair opens in January, and back to Heathrow when the stand comes down. In fair weeks, cars in Islington go early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at LHR, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

London Heathrow Airport to Islington: Route and Drive Time

Islington lies just north of the City, so from Heathrow the car has to cross most of west and central London. The ride is 20 miles, normally 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes; the distance is short for the time it takes, because the last third runs along the Marylebone Road and the Euston Road, which can be slow in both rush hours.

Angel is the gateway to the borough's centre. From there Upper Street runs north past the Business Design Centre, restaurants and theatres towards Highbury; Clerkenwell, with its design studios and offices, lies to the south, below Pentonville Road and City Road. Canonbury and Barnsbury are the residential squares and terraces in between.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. On weekday mornings and evenings, leave a margin for the Euston Road.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London Heathrow Airport

Heathrow operates Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, and they are far enough apart that the chauffeur needs to know which one, so give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

By train, the Elizabeth line runs from Heathrow to Farringdon, on the edge of Clerkenwell. Since 25 June 2026, though, the station beneath Terminals 2 and 3 has been closed, so anyone landing at those two must cross to Terminal 4 or 5 for a train. By car, the journey begins at your own terminal and the luggage rides in the boot.

Arriving at Your Address in Islington

Islington packs a lot into a small area. Upper Street is lined with shops, restaurants and theatres, and Clerkenwell has narrow streets and mews among its offices. The Congestion Charge boundary cuts through the borough: Clerkenwell, below the line of Pentonville Road and City Road, falls within the zone, while Angel, Highbury and Holloway to the north do not.

For an office in a Clerkenwell mews, a flat above an Upper Street shop or a hotel near Angel, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

Several venues draw visitors straight from the airport: the Business Design Centre for trade fairs, Sadler's Wells on Rosebery Avenue for dance, and Moorfields Eye Hospital on City Road for patients and their families.

From Islington Back to London Heathrow Airport

Base the pick-up time on the drive: 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes in normal traffic, and longer when the Euston Road is congested in the rush hours. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Tell us the departure terminal. British Airways passengers need Terminal 5, beyond the central terminals on the airport's far side, and Terminal 4 sits on its own south of the runways.

Arsenal home games at the Emirates Stadium close streets in Holloway and Highbury. If you are leaving from that part of the borough on a match day, check the kick-off time and set the pick-up well before the crowds arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long is the car journey from Heathrow to Islington?

Islington is 20 miles, normally 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes by car. The route crosses central London on the Marylebone and Euston Roads, so the time depends more on traffic than on distance.

If our flight lands early, will the chauffeur be ready?

Yes. The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time, early or late. Put your flight number in the booking.

Once through arrivals at Heathrow, how do Islington-bound passengers locate the car?

Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks.

Will a car from Heathrow enter the Congestion Charge zone in Islington?

Only if your address is in Clerkenwell, the part of the borough below Pentonville Road and City Road. Angel, Highbury and Holloway lie beyond the zone. The Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every London borough around the clock. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

Our gallery is bringing artworks to the London Art Fair. Can the car carry them?

Cases and portfolios, yes; for large crates, ask support first. Enter the number of bags in the booking form; for golf bags, bikes or other bulky items, tell support so the vehicle is matched to the load.

What do you need to know about London Heathrow Airport in 2026–2027?

Rail passengers from Terminals 2 and 3 have had to start at Terminal 4 or 5 since the station there closed on 25 June 2026. Heathrow is also reviewing which airline flies from which terminal. Back in Islington, the art fair on Upper Street comes round again on 19–24 January 2027.
