Getting Around Leipzig

Leipzig's exhibition grounds sit at the city's northern edge, 8 km from the Markt, 20–25 minutes by car. Five halls hold 111,300 m² of covered space and are joined by the Glass Hall, a 238-metre glass and steel hall. The Congress Center Leipzig is built into the same site, with 31 rooms and halls for 30 to 1,000 people.

Leipzig also builds cars. BMW has made vehicles at its Leipzig plant since 2005, more than 1,000 cars of the 1 and 2 Series a day, and Porsche has a plant in the city as well. A supplier's visit can mean a day between the plant gates, a hotel in the centre and the airport.

Leipzig Hauptbahnhof is connected to Erfurt by the high-speed line, and from there to the routes towards Munich and Frankfurt. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

For a day with meetings at a plant in the north, at the Messe and near the Markt, booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Airport Transfers in Leipzig

Leipzig/Halle Airport lies between the two cities, 18 km from Leipzig, 30–40 minutes by car. It is also DHL's main European hub, with some 65 aircraft movements every night, so cargo traffic runs alongside the passenger flights. About 2.1 million passengers used the airport in 2025, and the holiday flights go mainly to Turkey, Spain, Greece and Egypt.

Dresden Airport is 117 km east, 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes, and Erfurt–Weimar Airport 161 km west, 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.

Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Leipzig, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 30–40 minutes from the centre to Leipzig/Halle on a normal day, longer in book fair week. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Multi-City Travel from Leipzig

Halle is the closest city, 41 km west, 45 minutes to 1 hour; a meeting there fits between two appointments in Leipzig, and the Handel Festival fills the city in early June. Chemnitz, European Capital of Culture in 2025, is 84 km south, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, and Dresden 113 km east, 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes.

Weimar, home of Goethe and Schiller, lies 130 km away, 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes, a day trip for a group after a congress. Berlin is 185 km north, 2 hours 5 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes. Bamberg is 250 km, 2 hours 40 minutes to 3 hours 35 minutes. Hanover is 260 km north-west, 2 hours 50 minutes to 3 hours 50 minutes, with the Hannover Messe from 5 to 8 April 2027, and Nuremberg 284 km, 3 hours to 4 hours 5 minutes. A ride from your hotel in Leipzig to an office in Berlin or Dresden is booked as one journey to the address you give, without a change at a station.

If the programme puts meetings in two cities into one day, an hourly booking works better than two separate transfers.

Groups & Congress Travel in Leipzig

The Leipziger Buchmesse is held every March on the exhibition grounds; in 2027 it runs from 18 to 21 March. Publishers' teams may arrive over several days, authors come in for a single reading, and a reception in the city centre can follow the fair day. Congresses in the CCL bring their own weeks during the year.

When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If the team lands on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own, from Leipzig/Halle or from Dresden. For a group moving together, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load, book boxes and stand material included.

Book early for March. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early in book fair week. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Chauffeur Service in Leipzig

1-12 passengers For business
Trusted by professionals at
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: from Leipzig/Halle Airport to your hotel near the Markt on arrival, and out to the airport again once the fair or the plant visit is over. In Leipzig this counts most in March, during the Buchmesse, when cars in the city can be reserved long before. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pickup times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service is booked by time, not by route. Name the address in Leipzig where the day starts, the address where it finishes and how many hours you want, and one chauffeur and one car are reserved for you for that time. Share the plan for the day when you book, and the chauffeur will have it in advance. It suits a day of meetings or visits rather than one ride across town.
One-Way Service
One-Way Service covers one journey between two addresses: Leipzig/Halle Airport to the Congress Center Leipzig, the Hauptbahnhof to a hotel in the Waldstraßenviertel, Leipzig to a client in Chemnitz. For an airport pickup, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; for a departure, you set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Leipzig/Halle Airport have a railway station?

Yes. A long-distance station lies beneath the terminal on the Erfurt–Leipzig/Halle high-speed line, and S-Bahn lines S5 and S5X link it with Leipzig and Halle. With heavy luggage, or with a group heading to several hotels, a car from the terminal saves the change of trains in the city.

Does Leipzig still have a low-emission zone?

For now, yes. The Umweltzone has applied since March 2011 and covers about two-thirds of the city. In April 2026 the city announced it would lift it, because the legal limits have been met at all official measuring stations since 2019; the repeal is to come with the update of the air-quality plan, and no date had been set at the time of writing.

Where does the Leipzig Christmas market take place in 2026?

From 24 November to 23 December 2026 it is spread over seven areas in the city centre: Markt, Naschmarkt, Nikolaikirchhof, Augustusplatz, Petersstraße, Salzgässchen and Roßplatz. With more than 300 stalls, it dates back to 1458 and is the second-oldest Christmas market in Germany after Dresden's. Give your hotel's street with the booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

What do you need to know about Leipzig in 2026–2027?

Deutsche Bahn is replacing escalators and lifts in the City-Tunnel stations, eleven escalators and five lifts in all, with the work at Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz running from April to the end of 2026; train services run without restrictions and each station stays reachable by lift. The S3, S5 and S5X trains use the tunnel, so check the timetable on the day you travel.
