Getting Around Gottingen
Göttingen is a university town in the literal sense. The Georg-August University, which opened in 1737, is the oldest and largest in Lower Saxony, and students make up about a fifth of the city's 130,000 residents. Institutes, libraries and clinics are spread across the city, so a visiting professor's week can involve several campuses rather than one.
The medieval old town sits in the Leine valley around the Marktplatz, the Old Town Hall and the Gänseliesel fountain, the city's symbol of student life. The streets around the Marktplatz form a pedestrian zone. If your hotel or guest house is inside it, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.
Göttingen station is on the high-speed line between Hanover and Würzburg, so ICE trains from Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich call here. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.
For a day of meetings at two institutes and a lecture in the evening, booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve.

Airport Transfers in Gottingen
Kassel Airport is the closest: 65 km south, 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes, though its scheduled flights are few. Paderborn Lippstadt is 137 km away and Hannover Airport 138 km, both 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes. For long-haul flights, Frankfurt Airport is 229 km south, 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 25 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.
At Frankfurt, flights use Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, the building opened in April 2026; give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.
Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Gottingen, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes to Hannover Airport, and over two hours to Frankfurt, with more time when the A7 is congested. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Multi-City Travel from Gottingen
Göttingen lies on the A7, which runs the length of Germany. Kassel is 50 km south, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. Kassel's ICE station is Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe on the western side of the city, and the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe above it, with the Hercules monument, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013. Hanover is 121 km north, 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours; its fair grounds hold about 392,000 m² of hall space, and the HANNOVER MESSE takes place there between 5 and 8 April 2027.
To the east, Weimar is 178 km away, 2 hours to 2 hours 40 minutes, and Leipzig 233 km, 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 25 minutes. Frankfurt is 222 km south, 2 hours 25 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes. A guest who combines a seminar in Göttingen with a visit to Weimar can travel there in one car, luggage included; Weimar has eleven Classical sites and three Bauhaus sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In Leipzig, the Buchmesse is held on 18 to 21 March 2027.
The whole drive, from your Göttingen address onwards, is a single booking. For a day with two appointments in different cities, choose an hourly booking.

Groups & Event Travel in Göttingen
Every May the city hosts the International Handel Festival, the Internationale Händel-Festspiele; in 2026 it ran from 14 to 25 May. Opera evenings, concerts in churches and guests from abroad fill the old town for almost two weeks. Through the academic year, the university's conferences, doctoral defences and graduation days bring families and delegations of their own.
When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If conference speakers travel on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own, from Hannover, Kassel or Frankfurt Airport. For a delegation visiting several institutes, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load.
For the festival weeks in May, book once the programme is out. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early in those weeks. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
