Getting Around Hildesheim

Hildesheim is a city of about 98,000 people some 30 km south-east of Hanover, and two of its churches carry most of its fame. St Mary's Cathedral and St Michael's Church, both early Romanesque, have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. The Thousand-Year Rosebush grows against the cathedral's apse. On the Marktplatz, the rebuilt Knochenhaueramtshaus, a timber-framed guild hall first built in 1529, faces the town hall.

The Hauptbahnhof is a junction for two ICE lines, each running every two hours between Berlin and Frankfurt via Braunschweig and Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, and an S-Bahn line has run to Hanover since 2008. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

For a visit that joins the cathedral, St Michael's on its hill and the Knochenhaueramtshaus on the Marktplatz, book by the hour: one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve.

Parts of the old town are pedestrian streets. If your hotel or appointment is there, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

Airport Transfers in Hildesheim

The nearest airport is Hannover: 51 km north, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes on the A7 and A2. Kassel Airport, which has few scheduled flights, is 149 km south and Bremen Airport 151 km north, both 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.

At Hannover Airport, which has Terminals A to D, the railway station lies between Terminals B and C, and the terminals sit in a line, so give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.

Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Hildesheim, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes to Hannover Airport when the motorway runs freely, longer around Hanover in the morning. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Multi-City Travel from Hildesheim

Hildesheim lies on the A7, between Hanover in the north and Göttingen in the south. Hanover is 34 km away, 40–55 minutes, and Göttingen, with its university and the Internationale Händel-Festspiele every May, 91 km, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes.

Eastwards along the A39, Salzgitter is 37 km, 40–55 minutes, Braunschweig 56 km, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes, and Wolfsburg 85 km, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, a drive made, for example, for a meeting at Volkswagen or a new-car collection at the Autostadt; the Wolfsburg plant is the world's biggest car factory on one continuous site. Braunschweig is also a research base, with the national metrology institute PTB and the DLR. Hamburg is 178 km north, 2 hours to 2 hours 40 minutes, and its Hafengeburtstag runs from 6 to 9 May 2027.

A car from your door in Hildesheim to a meeting in Wolfsburg or Hamburg is one booking, with no platform change on the way. For two appointments in different cities on the same day, book by the hour.

Groups & Congress Travel in Hildesheim

Hildesheim is close to the Hanover exhibition grounds: 26 km, 35–45 minutes by car. When HANNOVER MESSE fills Hanover's hotels in April, or the farming fair Agritechnica (November 2027) arrives, a stand team staying in Hildesheim has to reach the halls every morning and return every evening.

When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If the team flies in on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. For colleagues on the same fair schedule, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load. The same applies to a choir or parish group visiting the two World Heritage churches.

For fair weeks in Hanover, book once your hotel in Hildesheim is confirmed. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early in those weeks. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Trusted by professionals at
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Hannover Airport to your hotel in Hildesheim, and back to the terminal when you leave. On a 51 km run with a fair-week rush around Hanover, having the return already on the books removes one task from the last morning. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pickup times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service is booked by time, not by route. Name the address in Hildesheim where the day starts, the address where it finishes and how many hours you want, and one chauffeur and one car are reserved for you for that time. Share the plan for the day when you book, and the chauffeur will have it in advance. It suits a day of meetings or visits rather than one ride across town.
One-Way Service
One-Way Service covers one journey between two addresses: Hannover Airport to a hotel near the Marktplatz, Hildesheim to the exhibition grounds on a fair morning, Hildesheim station to a meeting in Salzgitter. For an airport pickup, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; for a departure, you set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where and when is the Hildesheim Christmas market?

In 2026 it runs from 23 November to 28 December, closed on 24 and 25 December, with stalls on the historic Marktplatz, along the Hoher Weg and on the square An der Lilie, where there is also an ice rink. As these are pedestrian areas, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

Where can a coach group get advice on parking in Hildesheim?

The Tourist-Information at Rathausstraße 20, in the Tempelhaus, advises groups on transport and parking and has the contacts of coach companies in the region. For a choir or parish group travelling with us, name the church or the square for the drop-off in the booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Can I fly out of Hannover very early or land there late at night?

Hannover Airport is open around the clock and has no night-flight restrictions, and its S-Bahn line S5 reaches Hannover Hauptbahnhof in 17 minutes. With a departure at dawn, set the pickup time yourself and work back from the drive.

What do you need to know about Hildesheim in 2026–2027?

The Hanover fairs set the busy weeks: HANNOVER MESSE from 5 to 8 April 2027 and Agritechnica from 14 to 20 November 2027. If your hotel in Hildesheim is booked for one of these fairs, book the transfers early as well.
