Getting Around Kassel

Kassel has two main railway stations, and the difference matters when you arrive. ICE trains stop at Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, west of the centre, while the old Hauptbahnhof in the city centre has become a cultural station. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

West of Wilhelmshöhe station the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe rises up the hillside to the Hercules monument. The park and its water features were made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2013. From 1 May to 3 October the water features run on Wednesdays, Sundays and Hessian public holidays, when the water can be followed for about 2.3 km downhill.

Kassel is also the city of the documenta, the exhibition of contemporary art held here every five years; the next edition opens in June 2027.

For a day of visits between exhibition venues, the Bergpark and an appointment in town, booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Airport Transfers in Kassel

Kassel Airport at Calden is 17 km from the city, 25–35 minutes by car, but it has few scheduled flights. Paderborn Lippstadt is 88 km away, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and Erfurt-Weimar 150 km, 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes. For most international connections the airport to look at is Frankfurt, 182 km south, 2 hours 5 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.

If you fly from Frankfurt, your terminal is either Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, the building that opened in April 2026. Give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.

Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Kassel, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 2 hours 5 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes to Frankfurt on a normal day, longer in heavy traffic on the A5. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Multi-City Travel from Kassel

Kassel sits close to the middle of Germany, and several cities are a morning's drive away. Göttingen is 51 km north, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes, and its university, founded in 1737, is the oldest in Lower Saxony. Paderborn is 92 km west, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes; its Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum is the world's biggest computer museum, and the Libori festival runs there from 23 July to 1 August 2027. Hanover is 166 km, 1 hour 55 minutes to 2 hours 35 minutes, and Frankfurt 172 km, 2 hours to 2 hours 40 minutes; the Frankfurt Book Fair takes place from 6 to 10 October 2027.

To the east, Weimar, the town of Goethe and Schiller, is 169 km away, 1 hour 55 minutes to 2 hours 35 minutes. A visitor who combines the documenta with a day in Weimar can travel there and back with one chauffeur and one car.

A trip from your hotel in Kassel to an office in Hanover or Frankfurt is one booking, with no change of train and no luggage to carry between platforms. If the day includes meetings in both cities, book by the hour instead.

Groups & Event Travel in Kassel

The next documenta, documenta 16, runs from 12 June to 19 September 2027. That is a hundred days in which a school class, a museum circle or a press team may each need transport between the station, the hotel and the exhibition venues. Between May and early October, the Bergpark water features add their own visitor days.

When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If a delegation travels on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own, whether it lands at Frankfurt or Paderborn. For a group visiting the venues together, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load.

For the documenta summer of 2027, book as soon as your travel dates are fixed. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early for those months. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Chauffeur Service in Kassel

1-12 passengers For business
Trusted by professionals at
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Frankfurt Airport to your hotel in Kassel when you land, and the return to the terminal at the end of your visit. When each way takes two hours or more, settling the return in the same booking takes one worry off the last day, above all in the documenta summer. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pickup times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service is booked by time, not by route. Name the address in Kassel where the day starts, the address where it finishes and how many hours you want, and one chauffeur and one car are reserved for you for that time. Share the plan for the day when you book, and the chauffeur will have it in advance. It suits a day of meetings or visits rather than one ride across town.
One-Way Service
One-Way Service covers one journey between two addresses: Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe station to a hotel in the city centre, a hotel to the foot of the Bergpark, Kassel to a meeting in Göttingen or Paderborn. For an airport pickup, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; for a departure, you set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there scheduled flights from Kassel Airport?

Only a few. Kassel Airport at Calden had four weekly connections in summer 2026 and handled about 83,000 passengers in 2024. If your flight does land there, the drive into the city is short; for most other routes you will fly via Paderborn Lippstadt or Frankfurt. Book with your flight number, whichever airport you use.

Which Frankfurt terminal does my airline use?

The Lufthansa Group airlines have stayed in Terminal 1. The airlines that were based in Terminal 2, among them oneworld and SkyTeam members such as British Airways, Air France and KLM, moved to Terminal 3 in spring 2026. Check the terminal on your ticket and name it in the booking, so the car drives to the right building.

Which Kassel station should I give for a long-distance train?

ICE and other long-distance trains call at Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe. The old Hauptbahnhof is now a cultural station, the Kulturbahnhof, so name Wilhelmshöhe when you give your train. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

What do you need to know about Kassel in 2026–2027?

documenta 16 opens on 12 June 2027 and closes on 19 September 2027. At Frankfurt Airport, Terminal 2 is closed for refurbishment until the mid-2030s, and Condor moves from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 in summer 2027.
