Getting Around Chemnitz
Chemnitz lies in a basin at the foot of the Ore Mountains, and its economy is built on mechanical engineering, metalworking and vehicle manufacturing. Volkswagen is the largest employer in the Chemnitz–Zwickau region, and the Klinikum Chemnitz is the largest hospital in the eastern German states. Chemnitz University of Technology has around 10,000 students, about a quarter of them from abroad.
The city centre is marked by the Karl Marx Monument, the giant head by Lev Kerbel that locals call the "Nischel". The motorways meet north-west of the city at the Chemnitz interchange, where the A4 to Dresden and Erfurt crosses the A72 between Hof and Leipzig.
Chemnitz Hauptbahnhof had no Intercity trains for 16 years until June 2022, when a line via Dresden and Berlin to Warnemünde started. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.
For a day split between a plant, the university and a meeting in Zwickau, booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Airport Transfers in Chemnitz
Three airports serve Chemnitz, none of them in the city itself. Dresden Airport is the nearest, 82 km away, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes on the A4. Leipzig/Halle Airport is 112 km, 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes. Prague's Václav Havel Airport is 156 km south over the Ore Mountains, 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes, across the Czech border. Dresden Airport has a single terminal, opened in 2001, with an S-Bahn station inside; Leipzig/Halle has a railway station beneath its terminal. The right one depends on your airline and route.
Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Chemnitz, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes to Dresden on a clear motorway, more in winter weather in the mountains if you fly from Prague. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Cross-Border Travel from Chemnitz
Dresden is 77 km east, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, and Leipzig 84 km north, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes; both work as a day trip for a meeting. Weimar is 133 km west, 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes, and Nuremberg 241 km south-west on the A72 and A9, 2 hours 35 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes. Weimar's Classical Weimar sites and Bauhaus buildings are UNESCO World Heritage, Infineon opened its Smart Power Fab in Dresden in July 2026, and Leipzig has produced BMW cars since 2005.
Prague is 159 km away, 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes. The road climbs the Ore Mountains on the B174 and crosses into the Czech Republic before reaching the capital. You book it as a single transfer, with the same chauffeur and car from start to finish, with no change of vehicle at the border.
Germany has notified the European Commission of temporary checks at its internal land borders, the Czech border among them. Carry the travel documents your nationality and itinerary require.

Groups & Event Travel in Chemnitz
In 2025 Chemnitz was one of the two European Capitals of Culture, a title it won in October 2020 against Hanover, Hildesheim, Magdeburg and Nuremberg. A group can combine Chemnitz with Dresden or Leipzig in one trip. Within an hour and a half's drive are also Dresden's Striezelmarkt, from late November to Christmas Eve, and the Leipzig Book Fair in March.
When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If the group comes in on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own, from whichever of the three airports they use. For a party moving together, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load, including tool cases and samples for a plant visit.
Book early for March and for late November and December. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early in those weeks. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
