Getting Around Jena
Jena's name is tied to optics. Carl Zeiss, Schott and Jenoptik have long been the pillars of its economy, joined by Analytik Jena, Intershop and Jenapharm. The Friedrich Schiller University, founded in 1558, has around 21,000 students, the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences about 5,000 more, and Thuringia's only university hospital is in Jena. The JenTower, built in 1969–1972, is the tallest building on the skyline and a landmark in the centre.
Almost no long-distance trains stop in Jena any more. Since the new high-speed line opened in 2017, ICE trains between Berlin and Munich run via Erfurt, 52 km away, while Jena Paradies and Jena West have regional express services to Halle, Leipzig and Nuremberg. A car from Erfurt Hauptbahnhof bridges the gap. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.
For a day of meetings at an optics company, the university and the hospital, book by the hour: one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Airport Transfers in Jena
Jena has no airport of its own. Erfurt–Weimar Airport is 64 km west on the A4 and A71, 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. Leipzig/Halle Airport is 88 km north, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and Dresden Airport 179 km east, 2 hours to 2 hours 40 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.
The motorways do most of the work: the A4 between Frankfurt and Dresden and the A9 between Berlin and Munich meet close to the city, so every airport transfer starts with a short drive to one of them.
Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Jena, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes to Leipzig/Halle, more if the A9 is congested. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Multi-City Travel from Jena
Weimar, a UNESCO World Heritage city with Bauhaus sites, is 23 km west, 30–40 minutes, and Erfurt 52 km, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes; a meeting in either city and the drive back fit into a morning. Leipzig is 95 km north on the A9, 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes, and Halle (Saale), 98 km away at the same pace, hosts the Handel Festival every June.
Longer routes follow the motorways. Dresden is 175 km east on the A4, 2 hours to 2 hours 40 minutes, and Nuremberg 224 km south on the A9, 2 hours 25 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes. Bamberg is 191 km away, 2 hours 10 minutes to 2 hours 55 minutes, Berlin 248 km, 2 hours 40 minutes to 3 hours 35 minutes, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber 289 km, 3 hours 5 minutes to 4 hours 10 minutes. A trip from a lab in Jena to a partner in Dresden or a supplier in Nuremberg is one booking, with the samples and the cases in the same car the whole way.
If you need the car for meetings at both ends of the trip, book by the hour rather than a one-way journey.

Groups & Event Travel in Jena
A group coming to Jena may be a delegation to an optics company, guests at a university conference or specialists visiting the hospital. The region's big dates are close by. Erfurt's Christmas market on the Domplatz runs through Advent, 52 km away, and the Leipzig book fair follows in March. For a group based in Jena, that can mean a run to Erfurt or Leipzig and back on the same evening.
When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If the guests fly in on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own, from Erfurt–Weimar or from Leipzig/Halle. For a group that moves together, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load, including measuring equipment and display cases.
Book early for March and for the Advent weeks. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early in those weeks. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
