Getting Around St Albans
St Albans is a cathedral city in Hertfordshire, run by St Albans City and District Council. It became a city on 28 August 1877, when its abbey church was made a cathedral. In the centre stands the Clock Tower, built between 1403 and 1412 and the only medieval town belfry left in England, and a street market fills the centre every Wednesday and Saturday.
West of the cathedral, Verulamium Park covers part of the Roman town, with the Verulamium Museum on everyday life in Roman Britain. If your address is in the old streets around the market, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.
The city has two stations. St Albans City, about half a mile east of the centre, has Thameslink trains to London St Pancras; St Albans Abbey is the end of the Abbey line from Watford Junction. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival. By road, the M1 and the M25 both pass close to the city.
A day that combines client meetings in the city with visits to Hatfield and Harpenden can be booked by the hour: one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve.

Airport Transfers in St Albans
Luton Airport is 12 miles north, 30–40 minutes by car; its single terminal saw 17.77 million passengers in 2025. Heathrow is 28 miles south-west, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks. Stansted Airport is 37 miles, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes, and London City Airport 39 miles, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.
Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from St Albans, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: the Luton run is short, whereas Heathrow lies round the M25 and deserves the bigger margin. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Day-Trip Travel from St Albans
Two neighbours are close: Harpenden is 5 miles, 20–30 minutes, and Hatfield, with Hatfield House, 6 miles, 20–30 minutes. Central London is 25 miles, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes by road.
For a university day, Cambridge is 43 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes to 2 hours. A longer drive south reaches Eastbourne on the Sussex coast: 108 miles, 2 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours.
Booked by the hour, a there-and-back day keeps one driver at your disposal from start to finish. For a single journey, book one way and add the return as a separate booking when you know your plans.

Groups & Event Travel in St Albans
The Alban Arena, the city's former City Hall, hosts concerts, shows and conferences, and Verulamium Park served as a filming location for Wonka in 2022. If a touring choir, a conference party or a family gathering is coming to the city from Luton or Heathrow, the travel can be planned as one.
When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If guests fly in on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. For a party that moves together, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load.
For dates around Christmas or the summer holidays, book once they are set. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early at those times. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
