Getting Around Newcastle upon Tyne
Newcastle upon Tyne is the main city of Tyne and Wear in North East England, on the north bank of the River Tyne; Gateshead faces it across the river, linked by a row of bridges. The Quayside runs along the water below the city centre, and St James' Park, home of Newcastle United, stands right in the centre with room for about 52,000 people.
Newcastle Central station sits on the East Coast Main Line between London King's Cross and Edinburgh. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival. The Utilita Arena, a ten-minute walk from Central station, holds about 11,000 for concerts.
On match days and concert nights the streets around the stadium and the arena fill up, so send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go. For a day of visits that takes in the city centre, the Quayside and a client in Gateshead or Sunderland, booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve.

Airport Transfers in Newcastle upon Tyne
Newcastle International Airport is 10 miles north-west of the city centre, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes by car. Its only terminal, used by 5.48 million passengers in 2025, is being extended with a larger departure lounge, more check-in desks and extra stands. Jet2 has its largest base here, easyJet opened a base in March 2026, and Emirates flies to Dubai, which gives the region a direct long-haul link.
Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Newcastle upon Tyne, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: as the figures above show, a 10-mile trip can take more than an hour when the roads are busy. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Day-Trip Travel from Newcastle upon Tyne
Durham is the nearest great day out: its cathedral and castle are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 19 miles south, 40–55 minutes by car. To the north, Alnwick Castle, seat of the Percy family and a Harry Potter filming location, is about 34 miles away, 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes, along the A1.
The A1 also leads to Scotland. Edinburgh is 119 miles north, 2 hours 40 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes, and the route follows the Northumberland coast for part of the way. York is 90 miles south, 1 hour 55 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes, and Leeds 98 miles, 2 hours 10 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes. Windermere, in the Lake District, is 90 miles west across the Pennines, 2 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours.
A car leaves from your door with the luggage already loaded. For a there-and-back day, book by the hour and the same chauffeur drives you back to Tyneside; a one-way transfer to Edinburgh ends at your hotel there, with the return reserved later.

Groups & Event Travel in Newcastle upon Tyne
The Great North Run, the half marathon from Newcastle to South Shields, is on Sunday 12 September 2027, with the junior and mini races on the Quayside the day before. Charity teams, running clubs and families arrive for the weekend, and the start and finish are miles apart.
When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If runners and supporters fly in on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. For a club of twenty, with kit bags and supporters, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load.
Match days at St James' Park and concerts at the arena add their own peaks. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early for the Great North Run weekend. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
