Getting Around Bochum
Ruhr-Universität Bochum, one of the ten largest universities in Germany, has its campus in the south of the city, 6 km from the centre and 15–20 minutes by car. For a guest lecturer or an examiner staying in town, that is a short ride between hotel and lecture hall.
Starlight Express has been running in Bochum since 1988 in its own theatre and is the longest-running musical in Germany. Near the centre, the Bermuda3eck has around sixty bars and restaurants, and the Jahrhunderthalle, once the gas power station of a steelworks, is now a three-hall venue for concerts and events. Vonovia, Germany's largest residential property company, has its head office in Bochum.
Bochum Hauptbahnhof has ICE services. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival. For a day split between the university, a city-centre law firm and an appointment in Essen, book by the hour: one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Airport Transfers in Bochum
Dortmund Airport is the closest to Bochum: 30 km on the A40 and B1, 35–45 minutes by car. Its flights are mostly low-cost and leisure routes, with Wizz Air the main airline. Düsseldorf Airport, 44 km west, takes 45 minutes to 1 hour and has the broader network, including long-haul. Cologne Bonn Airport is 88 km, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.
For a conference at the university, the choice of airport changes the drive by only a quarter of an hour or so, so pick the better flight.
Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Bochum, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 35–45 minutes to Dortmund, 45 minutes to 1 hour to Düsseldorf. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Multi-City Travel from Bochum
Dortmund is 21 km east, 30–40 minutes, and its Westfalenhallen stage more than 1,000 events a year. Düsseldorf is 49 km away, 45 minutes to 1 hour by car. Cologne is 84 km to the south on the A43, A1 and A3, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Frankfurt is 234 km away via the A45, 2 hours 35 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes, so you can hold a meeting in Frankfurt and still sleep at home in Bochum.
For a trade fair at Messe Essen, which stages about 50 events a year, Essen is 17 km on the A40, 30–40 minutes. Gelsenkirchen is 13 km, 25–35 minutes, and its Veltins-Arena holds up to 70,000 people for concerts; Herne is 11 km away, 25–35 minutes.
A research team visiting partner universities in Cologne and Düsseldorf, or a manager heading to a bank in Frankfurt, travels in one car from door to door, with laptops, posters and luggage kept together and no change of train at a crowded hub.
For Frankfurt, set the pickup time with the longer figure in mind. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

Groups & Event Travel in Bochum
Bochum Total, the open-air music festival with no admission charge, has filled the Bermuda3eck every July for forty years. In 2027 it moves to the Westpark and takes place from 1 to 4 July. Starlight Express continues its run in its own theatre, and the Jahrhunderthalle hosts concerts and events.
When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If conference speakers arrive on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. For a school group going to the musical or a delegation with poster tubes, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load.
For the festival days in July and for conference weeks at the university, reserve in good time. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early in those weeks. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
