Dortmund Airport to Bochum: Route and Drive Time
The airport is on the eastern rim of the Ruhr, at Holzwickede, and Bochum lies on the far side of Dortmund to the west. By road the trip is 30 km on the A40 and B1, usually 35–45 minutes by car, and traffic on the motorway through the Ruhr decides which end of that range you get.
The final stretch depends on the address. The Bermuda3eck, with around sixty bars and restaurants, is close to the centre. The campus of the Ruhr-Universität is a different matter: it lies 6 km south of the centre, so a guest lecturer bound for the campus has a longer last leg than a visitor to a hotel in town.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Add the flight number and the full street address, including the building for the university, to the booking.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Dortmund Airport
DTM is a one-terminal airport. Every flight uses the same building, whether it is a Wizz Air service from Katowice or Bucharest, a Eurowings flight or a holiday return from Mallorca, so the booking needs no terminal and every passenger comes out into the same building.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.
The public alternatives show why a car suits this route. From the terminal, an express bus runs to Dortmund Hauptbahnhof and a shuttle bus to Holzwickede station, and either way Bochum means a change onto a train. A car goes from the terminal to the door in Bochum without that change, which counts with suitcases and children.

Arriving at Your Address in Bochum
Bochum's addresses fall into a few clear groups. The Ruhr-Universität, one of the ten largest universities in Germany, has a spread-out campus in the south of the city, so an examiner or a visiting researcher should name the building and the entrance, not only the university.
In town, Starlight Express has run since 1988 in a theatre built for it, the longest-running musical in Germany, and the Bermuda3eck is the evening quarter. The Jahrhunderthalle, built as a steelworks gas power station, now stages concerts and events in three halls. Vonovia, the largest residential property company in Germany, has its head office in the city.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For a performance or a concert, the theatre or hall entrance is a clearer target than the street name.

From Bochum Back to Dortmund Airport
For the return, count back from your flight using the length of the drive: from the centre of Bochum to the terminal it takes 35–45 minutes, more when the A40 is congested. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
With a single terminal at DTM, the airport end of the trip needs no detail at all. The planning happens on the Bochum side. In early July, Bochum Total brings an open-air music festival to the city; in 2027 it moves from the Bermuda3eck to the Westpark and runs from 1 to 4 July, so a hotel near either site needs extra time on those days.
A speaker leaving straight after the final session of a conference at the Ruhr-Universität can be collected at the lecture building instead of the hotel, which saves the detour back into town.
