Getting Around Essen
Essen is a city of head offices. RWE, thyssenkrupp, Evonik, Hochtief, Aldi Nord and Deichmann are all based here, and the University of Duisburg-Essen runs a university hospital in the city.
Messe Essen and the Grugahalle stand in Rüttenscheid, beside the Grugapark, 3 km south of the main station and a 10–15 minute drive. Zollverein, the former colliery in Katernberg and Stoppenberg, is 6 km north, 15–20 minutes. Since 2001 it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its 100-hectare grounds hold the Ruhr Museum, the Red Dot Design Museum and event and conference spaces.
Essen Hauptbahnhof is served by ICE trains. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival. For a working day with a head office, a hall at the Messe and an appointment at Zollverein, booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve.
Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop. At Zollverein, give the name of the building as well, because the site is large.

Airport Transfers in Essen
Düsseldorf Airport is the closest to Essen: 30 km on the A52, usually 35–45 minutes, and it offers the wider range of scheduled routes. Dortmund Airport is 47 km east, 45 minutes to 1 hour; its traffic is mainly low-cost and leisure flights, with Wizz Air as the leading airline. Cologne Bonn Airport is 79 km, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. The right one depends on your airline and route.
From Düsseldorf Airport to Messe Essen it is 26 km, 35–45 minutes, so on a fair morning you can ride from the terminal directly to the halls.
Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Essen, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 35–45 minutes to Düsseldorf on a quiet day, more when the A52 and A40 are slow at rush hour. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Cross-Border Travel from Essen
Cologne is 74 km south on the A52 and A3, 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes. Within the Ruhr, Bochum is 17 km east on the A40, 30–40 minutes, and Mülheim an der Ruhr 13 km west on the same road, 25–35 minutes. A transfer from a head office in Essen to a meeting in Cologne is a single booking, and nobody changes trains with a laptop bag and a suitcase. In Cologne the halls of the Koelnmesse in Deutz cover 284,000 m², and the food and drink fair Anuga is held there from 9 to 13 October 2027.
The Netherlands is close enough for a day of meetings. Maastricht is 140 km away, 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes, and Amsterdam 207 km, 2 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 10 minutes. You book it exactly like a trip within Germany, with the same chauffeur and car from start to finish, with no change of vehicle at the border.
Germany has notified the European Commission of temporary checks at its internal land borders, the Dutch border included. Carry the travel documents your nationality and itinerary require.

Groups & Congress Travel in Essen
Messe Essen holds around 50 events a year. SPIEL, the international board game fair, takes place every October; in 2026 it runs from 22 to 25 October and, for the first time, fills every hall, 81,200 m² in total, with more than 220,000 visitors expected. E-world energy & water, the energy industry fair, is held in February, and the Essen Motor Show runs from 27 November to 6 December 2026 on 110,000 m².
When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If exhibitors fly in on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. For a stand crew with display cases and game prototypes, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load.
For SPIEL and the Motor Show, book once your dates are set. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early around those fairs. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
