Getting Around Obertauern
Obertauern is easy to picture: one road, the B99, climbs to the top of the Radstädter Tauern Pass at 1,738 m, and the village is built around the point where it crosses. Everything in the resort sits along that road.
There is no railway up here. If you come by train, the line ends for you at Radstadt, about 20 km down the northern side of the pass, and the rest is by road. Tell us which train you are on when you book, and the car is scheduled for that arrival at Radstadt station.
The same road is how you leave the pass during your stay. Radstadt is one way, Tweng and Mauterndorf are down the southern side, and the B99 is the way to both. For an evening in the valley, booking by the hour keeps one chauffeur and one car at your disposal for the time you reserve.
One detail worth knowing: Obertauern is not a municipality of its own. Part of the village belongs to Untertauern and part to Tweng, with the boundary on the pass itself. Send the full address with your booking, and the confirmation will tell you where the car can stop.

Airport Transfers to Obertauern
For Obertauern the choice of airport is usually simple. Salzburg is about 90 km away, roughly an hour and a quarter, and nothing else comes close. Klagenfurt is about 140 km. Ljubljana, at about 200 km, and Munich, at about 220 km, are worth considering only if that is where your flight lands.
The drive has two halves. From Salzburg the A10 Tauern motorway takes you as far as the Radstadt exit, and that is the easy part. The last 20 km are the B99 up the northern side of the pass, climbing to 1,738 m. From Klagenfurt or Ljubljana you leave the A10 at St. Michael and come up the southern side through Mauterndorf, which is also about 20 km. In fresh snow the pass road is the part that sets the arrival time, whichever side you climb.
Give us your flight number when you book. Your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For the flight home, you set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Cross-Border Travel from Obertauern
From the top of the pass the B99 gives you two directions, and they lead to different parts of Austria. North, through Radstadt and onto the A10, is Salzburg, about 90 km away: a day in the city in the middle of the week, or a night there before the flight home. East from Radstadt, the Enns valley road runs to Schladming. South, through Mauterndorf and the Lungau, the A10 carries on into Carinthia, and Klagenfurt is about 140 km.
If your week is split between two resorts, the move between them is the awkward part. Obertauern has no railway, so every connection by public transport starts with the bus down to Radstadt. A car takes that step out: one pickup at the hotel you are leaving, booked through to the address of the next.
The same two directions lead out of Austria. North, the motorway from Salzburg continues to Munich, about 220 km from Obertauern. South, beyond Klagenfurt, are Slovenia and Italy, with Ljubljana about 200 km away. A journey across the border is one booking with one chauffeur for the whole route. Germany, Slovenia and Italy are all in the Schengen area, but checks on internal borders come and go, so everyone travelling should carry the travel documents their nationality and itinerary require.

Groups, Ski Equipment & Winter Travel in Obertauern
Obertauern sits on top of a pass, which is why the snow is reliable and why the road up deserves some respect. The B99 is cleared all winter, but in heavy snowfall chains can be required on the climb from either side. None of that needs to be your concern. Between 1 November and 15 April Austrian law requires winter tyres in wintry conditions, buses run on them regardless of the weather, and on this road nobody treats that as a formality.
Most guests come up from Salzburg on a winter Saturday, together with everybody else: the airport opens a second terminal for that day's charter flights. If you are travelling as a group, it is the luggage that decides the vehicle. A family of four with boot bags and boards needs more room than four colleagues with cabin cases. A Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats. Tell us how many skis, boards and bags are coming, not only how many people.
Those Saturdays, along with Christmas and New Year, are when local vehicles and drivers are committed furthest ahead, so they are the dates to book first. If your plans do not fit a standard booking, speak to support and they will work it out with you.
