Getting Around Kaprun
Kaprun is one village at 786 m where the Kaprun valley opens out, and the valley road carries on for another 9 km to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier lifts. That gives a ski day two starting points. Since 2019 the 3K K-onnection has run from the village centre over the Maiskogel to the glacier, so many guests start in the village and never drive up the valley; others stay near the glacier base and do.
Long-distance trains do not stop in Kaprun. The village station, Fürth-Kaprun, is on the narrow-gauge Pinzgauer Lokalbahn, and mainline arrivals end in Zell am See, about 8 km away. With skis and cases, that change of train is the step a car removes. Give us the train and its arrival time and the car is booked to meet it.
Zell am See is also where many evenings go, to the lake and the old town. The Ski ALPIN CARD ties the Kitzsteinhorn to the Schmittenhöhe and the Skicircus Saalbach, so guests move between the three areas all week. Booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve, and dinner by the lake ends with the car that took you there.
A Kaprun address can be in the village or 9 km up the valley at the glacier base, and those are two different journeys. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Airport Transfers to Kaprun
Most guests fly to Salzburg for Kaprun: about 98 km, around an hour and a half. Munich is about 210 km and closer to three hours, a fair trade if the flights are better. Innsbruck, about 150 km away, takes two hours or so and brings you in from the west.
From Salzburg you either take the A10 and then the B311 up the Salzach valley, or the B311 through Lofer and Saalfelden; from Munich the German A8 leads onto the same Lofer road. Near Bruck the B168 turns off into Kaprun. From Innsbruck the route crosses to Mittersill and reaches the village along the B168 from the west. Every approach ends on that one road into the village, and on a winter Saturday it carries the whole valley's changeover.
Give us your flight number with the booking. Your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For the flight home, you set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Cross-Border Travel from Kaprun
Kaprun has no mainline station, so any onward journey by rail starts with getting to Zell am See first. Salzburg, about 98 km away, is the city most often added to a Kaprun stay. For a change of resort, Saalbach-Hinterglemm is about 28 km and Zell am See 8. By car it is one pickup at your hotel in Kaprun and one drop-off at the next, with the luggage staying in the same vehicle.
Munich is about 210 km north, and the drive crosses into Germany beyond Lofer. It is booked like a domestic trip, with the same chauffeur and vehicle all the way and no change of car at the border. Checks at internal Schengen borders come and go, and Germany currently runs temporary checks on its border with Austria, so everyone travelling should carry the travel documents their nationality and itinerary require.

Groups, Ski Equipment & Winter Travel in Kaprun
Winter access to Kaprun is from one side only. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the route south, is closed from about early November to early May, so in season the village is reached along the Salzach valley. Austrian law requires winter tyres from 1 November to 15 April whenever roads are wintry, and buses are fitted with them for the whole season regardless of the weather.
Glacier skiing means kit. A family heading for the Kitzsteinhorn travels with boots, skis and helmets for everyone, and that takes more space than the seat count suggests. Where the group travels together, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats. Tell us what the party is carrying, and the vehicle is matched to the load. If the party flies in on different flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own.
Book the festive weeks at Christmas and New Year, and the Saturdays through the winter, first, since local vehicles and drivers are booked up early. For anything outside a standard booking, speak to support and they will put the arrangement together.
