Airport Transfers from Innsbruck Airport (INN) to Kaprun

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Innsbruck Airport to a hotel in Kaprun village, the terminal to an apartment close to the glacier lifts, or Kaprun back to Kitzbühel when the holiday continues in Tyrol. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Innsbruck Airport over the Pass Thurn to Kaprun at the start of the holiday, and back into Tyrol at the end. It is the return that needs securing early, because winter Saturdays bring the changeover of the whole Pinzgau onto the same roads at once. You choose both pickup times, and both appear in your booking confirmation.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at INN, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Innsbruck Airport to Kaprun: Route and Drive Time

By road, Kaprun lies 150 km east of Innsbruck Airport; allow 2 hours to 2 hours 50 minutes for the drive. The car runs east on the A12 down the Inn valley to Wörgl, then takes the B178 and the B161 through Kitzbühel and over the Pass Thurn, 1,274 m high on the border between Tyrol and Salzburg. On the far side the road descends to Mittersill, and the B168 leads east along the Salzach valley into Kaprun from the west.

Only the first part is motorway. Most of the time goes on the country roads and the pass, and on a winter Saturday they also carry the changeover traffic of Kitzbühel and the Pinzgau. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

The village is at 786 m; the lifts onto the Kitzsteinhorn glacier start a further 9 km up the valley. If your hotel is up there rather than in the village, say so when you book.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Innsbruck Airport

Salzburg is the usual airport for Kaprun, so landing at Innsbruck is normally a choice made for a reason: the flight time suits better, a winter charter flies there, or the trip opens with a few days in Tyrol before the glacier. Whatever the reason, the arrival is straightforward. INN has one passenger terminal, and whichever airline brings you in, there is only one arrivals area to leave by.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. As the drive to Kaprun takes over two hours, send the flight number with the booking, and add how many ski bags and boot bags are travelling, so that the car suits the load from the start.

Arriving at Your Hotel in Kaprun

A Kaprun address can mean two quite different places. The village lies at the mouth of its valley, and the 3K K-onnection, open since 2019, runs from the village over the Maiskogel up to the glacier; a hotel in the village therefore puts you on the lift network. Others choose a hotel near the Kitzsteinhorn base, 9 km further up the valley road, which adds a stretch to the drive.

Coming from Innsbruck, the car enters Kaprun from the Mittersill side and does not pass through Zell am See, 8 km away. The narrow-gauge Pinzgauer Lokalbahn stops at Fürth-Kaprun, but long-distance trains end in Zell.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For an apartment house, add the name on the building as well as the street.

From Kaprun Back to Innsbruck Airport

Leaving Kaprun, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 2 hours to 2 hours 50 minutes to Innsbruck Airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

The way back mirrors the way in: west along the Salzach valley to Mittersill, over the Pass Thurn to Kitzbühel and on to the A12 at Wörgl. From a hotel near the glacier lifts, the 9 km down the valley come first. On a Saturday the pass road carries departures from both Tyrol and Salzburg.

If your flight home leaves from Salzburg instead, the transfer is shorter: 98 km, 1 hour 25 minutes to 2 hours. A holiday that ends with a few days in Kitzbühel is booked as a transfer to the hotel there, with the airport run as a second booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long is the transfer from Innsbruck Airport to Kaprun?

It is 150 km: the A12 to Wörgl, then through Kitzbühel and over the Pass Thurn to Mittersill, and along the B168 into Kaprun. Plan on 2 hours to 2 hours 50 minutes; the pass and the country roads take most of the time.

Why fly to Innsbruck for Kaprun when Salzburg is closer?

Salzburg is 98 km from Kaprun and the more usual choice. Innsbruck makes sense when its flight times suit you better, when your charter lands there, or when the holiday also includes Innsbruck or Kitzbühel, which lies on the way.

Is the Pass Thurn open in winter?

Yes, the Pass Thurn road between Kitzbühel and Mittersill is a main link between Tyrol and Salzburg and is kept open through the year. Between 1 November and 15 April Austrian law requires winter tyres whenever conditions are wintry, and buses run on them all season whatever the weather.

Our hotel is near the glacier lifts, not in the village. Does that change anything?

Yes, it adds about 9 km up the valley road beyond the village. Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

We are two families with a lot of ski equipment. What vehicle do we need?

Tell us the number of people and the skis, boots, boards and helmets travelling with you; the vehicle is matched to the load. If the families arrive on different flights, each arrival is booked as its own transfer.

What do you need to know about the Innsbruck–Kaprun route in 2026–2027?

For winter 2026–2027 the pattern is the usual one: Innsbruck limits its Saturday slots, and on Saturdays the Pass Thurn road also carries the Kitzbühel and Pinzgau changeover. South of Kaprun, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road stays shut in winter, roughly November to early May.
