Getting Around Lisbon

Lisbon's working addresses are spread along the river front. The hotels and shops of Baixa-Chiado are in the centre. Parque das Nações, to the northeast, is the modern business and events district, home to FIL, the largest exhibition venue in Portugal, with four halls of 10,000 m². The Lisbon Congress Centre is on the opposite, western side, near Belém. A congress week can mean moving between the two more than once a day.

Long-distance trains call at Lisboa-Oriente, two minutes from FIL, including the Alfa Pendular services from Porto and Faro. Some also run on to Santa Apolónia, the historic terminus in the centre. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

Business visits often involve hotels on Avenida da Liberdade, sessions at FIL and meetings in Belém or Chiado. Each journey can be booked as a separate transfer; for a full day of meetings, hourly service reserves one chauffeur and one vehicle for the hours you choose.

The Baixa and Avenida da Liberdade are inside Lisbon's low-emission zone (ZER), which applies on weekdays during the day. Send the full address with your booking, and support will say how close to it a car can get.

Airport Transfers in Lisbon

Humberto Delgado Airport is inside the city, 7 km from the centre. The drive usually takes 15–35 minutes, depending on the hour. There is no motorway on the way: the road runs down Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho and Avenida Almirante Reis to the Baixa. From Parque das Nações and FIL the airport is closer still, about seven minutes by car.

The hour of the day matters more than the distance. The morning and evening rush fill the avenues into the centre, and trips to or from the south bank depend on the 25 de Abril bridge, where queues build at the same hours. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

For arrivals, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Lisbon, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 15–35 minutes from the centre to the airport, longer in heavy traffic. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Cross-Border Travel from Lisbon

A week in Lisbon often continues elsewhere in Portugal. Évora, the Alentejo's main city, is 135 km east on the A2 and A6, close enough for a site visit and back the same day. Porto is 313 km north on the A1. When a congress in Lisbon is followed by meetings in Porto, the car takes you from your Lisbon hotel to the next address in one booking, with your luggage in the same vehicle.

Spain is within reach by road. Badajoz, just across the border in Extremadura, is 227 km away on the A6. Seville is 466 km, a full day on the road. On either route you get the same chauffeur and car from start to finish, with no change of vehicle at the border.

The Portugal–Spain border is an internal Schengen border. Bring the travel documents required for your nationality and your route.

Groups & Congress Travel in Lisbon

Lisbon hosts large international meetings. In ICCA's 2025 ranking it placed first in the world, with 188 association meetings. Tech and cruise traffic add to that. When, for example, Web Summit came to FIL and the MEO Arena in November 2025, it drew 71,386 participants from 157 countries. In 2025 the port also recorded 121 cruise turnaround calls, where passengers start or end their cruise in the city.

When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation; when a delegation arrives on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. A Sprinter van takes up to 12 people with their bags; larger groups travel by coach, with up to 56 seats, chosen to fit the group and its luggage.

Book early for November, when Web Summit is on: local vehicles and drivers are booked up early. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Chauffeur Service in Lisbon

1-12 passengers For business
Trusted by professionals at
Round-Trip Service
A round trip puts both directions into a single booking: Humberto Delgado Airport to your hotel on arrival and back on the last day, or a return run from the centre to Évora for a day in the Alentejo. It matters most in November, during Web Summit week, when local vehicles and drivers are booked up early. You set both pickup times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service is booked by time, not by route. Name the address in Lisbon where the day starts, the address where it finishes and how many hours you want, and one chauffeur and one car are reserved for you for that time. Share the plan for the day when you book, and the chauffeur will have it in advance. It suits a day of meetings or visits rather than one ride across town.
One-Way Service
One-Way Service is a single journey from one address to another: the airport to a hotel on Avenida da Liberdade, Oriente station to the FIL halls, or the Santa Apolónia cruise terminal to a hotel in Belém. For arrivals, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure, choose a pickup time that leaves enough room for check-in.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get from Lisbon Airport to the city centre?

Humberto Delgado Airport sits inside Lisbon, only 7 km from the centre; the drive usually takes 15–35 minutes, depending on the hour. There is no motorway on the way: the road runs along Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho and Avenida Almirante Reis to the Baixa. Book the transfer with your flight number: your chauffeur follows the flight and adjusts the pickup if it lands early or late.

How many airports does Lisbon have?

Flights to Lisbon use Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), which sits inside the city, 7 km from the centre, and about seven minutes by car from Parque das Nações and the FIL exhibition halls. A new airport, Luís de Camões, is planned on the south bank of the Tagus, and the government expects it to open from 2035. Until then, LIS is the airport for Lisbon.

How far is Porto from Lisbon?

Porto is 313 km north of Lisbon on the A1 motorway. By car, the journey is one booking from your Lisbon hotel to your address in Porto, with your luggage in the same vehicle. Alfa Pendular trains from Lisboa-Oriente and Santa Apolónia run to Porto-Campanhã in about 2 hours 35 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes. If you continue by car from the station, add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

How do I get to Sintra from Lisbon?

Sintra is 29 km from central Lisbon, usually 40–55 minutes by car. You can book both directions in one Round-Trip reservation, or choose hourly service, where one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve. For groups, note that tourist coaches no longer enter Sintra's historic centre and park at the Lourel and Ramalhão car parks outside it.

Is there a low-emission zone in central Lisbon?

Yes. The Baixa and Avenida da Liberdade are inside Lisbon's low-emission zone, the ZER, in force since 2011. It applies on weekdays during the day, and fully electric vehicles are exempt. Send the full address with your booking, and support will say how close to it a car can get.

Our group lands in Lisbon on several flights. How does that work?

Every flight gets a transfer of its own, and the vehicle for each one depends on who is on that flight and what they carry: four travellers with suitcases need a different vehicle from eight with golf bags. Book the arrivals one by one in your account, or write to support with the flights and the number of people, and the team will set them up.
