Getting Around Faro

Faro is compact. The marina and the railway station stand side by side in the centre, and the walled Cidade Velha, the old town, is directly behind them. The airport is on the western edge of the city, and the beaches of the Ria Formosa lagoon lie beyond the old town, on islands reached by boat.

Faro station is on the Algarve line, with direct Alfa Pendular trains to Porto-Campanhã and Intercidades trains to Lisbon, plus regional trains west to Lagos and east to Vila Real de Santo António. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

Many plans lead out of town: Loulé is 17 km inland, Quinta do Lago 19 km and Vilamoura 25 km along the coast. A round trip covers the ride there and back, with both pickup times chosen by you; for a longer day, hourly service reserves one chauffeur and one vehicle for the hours you choose.

The municipality requires a special authorisation to drive or park inside the Cidade Velha, and an exceptional one for the pedestrian streets of the Baixa. Send the full address with your booking, and support will say how close to it a car can get.

Airport Transfers in Faro

Faro Airport is 8 km from the centre, on the EN 125-10, and the drive usually takes 20–25 minutes. It is the airport for Faro and for much of the Algarve coast. Seville Airport, 210 km away in Spain, and Lisbon Airport, 277 km, are the long-distance alternatives, used when a flight to either suits your dates better; allow 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 25 minutes from Seville.

The short run into town is rarely the problem. The slow road in the region is the EN125, the old national road along the coast: it is narrow, full of roundabouts, and a minor incident can bring it to a standstill. The A22 motorway runs parallel to it further inland. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

For arrivals, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Faro, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 20–25 minutes from the centre to the airport, longer in summer traffic. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Cross-Border Travel from Faro

Faro is often the first part of a longer trip. Lisbon is 278 km north on the A2, for a few days in the capital after the coast, and Lagos, at the western end of the Algarve, is 86 km away. A move from a Faro hotel to one further along the coast is a single booking, with the luggage in the same car.

Spain is close. The A22 crosses the Guadiana on the international bridge between Vila Real de Santo António and Ayamonte, and the A-49 continues to Huelva, 112 km from Faro, and Seville, 198 km. A city stay in Seville can follow a week on the coast, and you get the same chauffeur and car from start to finish, with no change of vehicle at the border.

The Portugal–Spain border is an internal Schengen border. Bring the travel documents required for your nationality and your route.

Groups & Event Travel in Faro

Faro's events bring groups to a small city. When, for example, the international motorcycle rally, the Concentração Internacional de Motos, fills the Vale das Almas site in July, or Festival F takes over the old town in early September, many visitors arrive in the city over the same few days.

When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation; when a group lands on different flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. A Sprinter van takes up to 12 people with their bags; larger groups travel by coach, with up to 56 seats, chosen to fit the group and its luggage. Golf bags, beach equipment and several suitcases per person change the vehicle, so list them when you book.

Book early for June to September, the Algarve's high season, and for event weekends in July and early September: local vehicles and drivers are booked up early. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Chauffeur Service in Faro

1-12 passengers For business
Trusted by professionals at
Round-Trip Service
A round trip puts both directions into a single booking: Faro Airport to your hotel and back at the end of the trip, or a return run from Faro to Tavira or Loulé. It matters most between June and September, the Algarve's high season, when local vehicles and drivers are booked up early. Give both flight times when you book. You set both pickup times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service is booked by time, not by route. Name the address in Faro where the day starts, the address where it finishes and how many hours you want, and one chauffeur and one car are reserved for you for that time. Share the plan for the day when you book, and the chauffeur will have it in advance. It suits a day of meetings or visits rather than one ride across town.
One-Way Service
One-Way Service is a single journey from one address to another: Faro Airport to a hotel in the centre, Faro station to a villa in Quinta do Lago, or your hotel to the university campus at Gambelas. For arrivals, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure, choose a pickup time that leaves enough room for check-in.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Faro Airport from the town?

Faro Airport is on the western edge of the city, 8 km from the centre on the EN 125-10. The drive usually takes 20–25 minutes, longer in summer traffic. Book with your flight number: your chauffeur follows the flight and adjusts the pickup if it lands early or late.

How do I get to a hotel in Faro from the airport?

Book a One-Way transfer from Faro Airport to your hotel address. Inside the walled Cidade Velha, the municipality requires a special authorisation to drive or park, and the pedestrian streets of the Baixa need an exceptional one, so the car may not reach every door there. Send the full address with your booking, and support will say how close to it a car can get.

How far is Faro from Lisbon?

Lisbon is 278 km north of Faro on the A2 motorway. By car, the move from a hotel in Faro to one in the capital is a single booking, with the luggage in the same car. Faro station, next to the marina, has direct Intercidades trains to Lisbon and Alfa Pendular trains to Porto-Campanhã.

How do I get from Faro to Lagos?

Lagos, at the western end of the Algarve, is 86 km from Faro. A move from a Faro hotel to one in Lagos is one booking, from the door you leave to the door you arrive at. Regional trains also run from Faro west to Lagos.

How do I get from Faro, Portugal to Seville?

Seville is 198 km from Faro. The A22 crosses the Guadiana on the international bridge between Vila Real de Santo António and Ayamonte, and the A-49 continues to Seville. By car you get the same chauffeur and car from start to finish, with no change of vehicle at the border. The Portugal–Spain border is an internal Schengen border. Bring the travel documents required for your nationality and your route.

We have a lot of luggage or sports gear — how do we make sure it all fits?

Contact support before you book. Give the number of large cases, bike boxes and golf or ski bags as well as the number of passengers, and the vehicle is chosen to fit them. Which vehicles are available differs from market to market, so it is better to confirm in advance than to count seats.
