Airport Transfers from or to London Stansted Airport (STN)

One-Way Service
One-Way Service covers one journey between two addresses: Stansted to an office in Chelmsford, Stansted to a family home in Walthamstow, a hotel in Harlow to the terminal for a dawn departure. For an airport pick-up, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules. For a departure, the time is yours to choose.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Stansted to a college in Cambridge for a week of seminars and back for the evening flight home, or Stansted to a hotel in Newmarket for the July racing and back to the terminal afterwards. Flights from Stansted fill up in the summer months. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Some arrival days do not end at one address. With hourly service from STN you choose at booking where the day starts, where it ends and how many hours you need, and the same chauffeur and vehicle remain with you for that whole period. Send the day's programme with the booking, so the chauffeur has it before you land. It suits a day built around appointments rather than a single destination.

Chauffeur Service at London Stansted Airport (STN)

Stansted handled 29.76 million passengers in 2025 and ranked fourth among UK airports. All flights use one terminal building; the gates sit in satellite buildings, now reached by a track transit system that new skylink walkways are being built to replace. Collections at Stansted take place in the Short Stay car parks rather than at the terminal front.

The airport lies in north-west Essex, close to the Hertfordshire border. Bishop's Stortford is 6 miles, 20–30 minutes, and Harlow 15 miles, 35–50 minutes. Chelmsford is 20 miles, 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes. To the north, Cambridge is 30 miles, 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes. Central London is 37 miles south-west, 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes, and the east London districts come first on that road: Stratford is 33 miles, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.

When you fly in, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules. When you fly out, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Sprinter Van Service at London Stansted Airport (STN)

Racing parties are a Stansted group with a clear destination. Newmarket, the home of British flat racing and its training yards, is about 35 miles from the terminal, 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes, and owners, syndicate members and racing clubs come through Stansted for its meetings. A Sprinter van carries up to 12 passengers with their luggage, so a syndicate with smart clothes in suit carriers rides together. Tell us about the bags and hat boxes, and the vehicle is matched to the load.

Academic visitors to Cambridge travel the same way: a research team or a visiting faculty group flies in, and when its members come on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation.

Some parties continue by sea. Harwich International Port, with Stena Line ferries to the Hook of Holland, is about 52 miles east of the airport, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, and a van keeps people and cases together for the boat.

Coach Service at London Stansted Airport (STN)

A school party bound for London museums or a company group heading to a conference hotel in Essex can land as one block of forty or more. Coaches come in several sizes with up to 56 seats, and the luggage travels in the hold, so nobody waits for a second vehicle at the car park.

Air show audiences have their own date. IWM Duxford holds a flying day on Saturday 5 June 2027, and the museum is about 23 miles from Stansted, 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes by road. Longer coach routes are common from this airport: Milton Keynes is 58 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes, and Maidstone in Kent is 60 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes.

Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early around school holidays and summer weekends. A coach needs room to pull in at a hotel or a college, so send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

Where is Stansted Airport and how long is the drive to London?

Stansted is in north-west Essex, next to the village of Stansted Mountfitchet and a few miles north of Bishop's Stortford. By road central London is 37 miles away, 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes, depending on the time of day and where in the city you are going.

Is there a train station at Stansted Airport?

Yes. Stansted Airport has its own station, and the Stansted Express runs to London Liverpool Street in about 48 minutes on average, with Tottenham Hale among its calls. For the last part of the journey or for a home outside London, a car from the terminal saves changing trains with luggage.

How does the drop-off charge at Stansted work?

Since 19 March 2026 the Express Set Down zone outside the terminal has had no barriers: the zone works with number-plate cameras, and you settle the charge online, by phone or through AutoPay no later than 23:59 on the next day. There is also a drop-off option at the Mid Stay car park, linked to the terminal by shuttle bus. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

Our group arrives on different flights — can that be arranged?

Yes. Every flight number becomes a separate transfer, so a party split between a morning flight and an afternoon flight needs a booking for each. Whichever vehicle you pick, tell support how many cases, boxes or sports bags travel with the party, not only the number of passengers.

Does Stansted still have the 100 ml liquids rule?

As of August 2026 it did: Stansted, like Luton and London City, still applied the 100 ml limit for liquids in hand luggage, while Heathrow and Gatwick had lifted it. Check the airport's security page shortly before you fly, because the rule changes airport by airport as new scanners are installed.

What do passengers need to know about London Stansted Airport (STN) in 2026 and 2027?

In August 2026 Stansted named Farrans as the contractor for the skylink walkways, whose construction began in summer 2026; once they open, the track transit to the gates can be removed and the terminal extended in later phases, with no completion date published. June 2026 was the busiest June on record, with 2.88 million passengers.
