Airport Transfers from London Stansted Airport (STN) to Harwich

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Stansted Airport to the Stena Line terminal at Parkeston, the airport to a guest house in Dovercourt, or a hotel in old Harwich to Stansted Airport for an afternoon flight. When you are landing, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; when you are flying out, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Stansted Airport to Harwich International Port for a crossing to the Hook of Holland, and the port back to the terminal when you return by ferry for a flight home. For the return leg, choose a time based on the ferry's scheduled arrival. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at STN, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

London Stansted Airport to Harwich: Route and Drive Time

Harwich is a port town in the Tendring district, at the far eastern end of Essex on the North Sea coast. From the terminal to Harwich the drive is 53 miles, normally 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes.

One road links the two ends of the trip. The A120 passes just south of the airport and runs east past Braintree, meets the A12 at Marks Tey, bypasses Colchester and finishes in the town. Near the end, the A136 Parkeston link serves Harwich International Port and its station, while the A120 itself continues into Harwich and Dovercourt.

So the first question is whether you are going to the ferry or to the town: the port at Parkeston lies upstream of the old quays on the River Stour, and the two are separate destinations. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London Stansted Airport

Stansted has one terminal, and every flight arrives there; the gates are in satellite buildings, reached by a track transit. For pre-booked collections, head to the Short Stay car parks.

As soon as you land, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Harwich is a long way from the airport's rail links: the Stansted Express heads to London, and the three Harwich stations are on the Mayflower line on the coast, so a train trip between the two is not a single ride. If you are catching a ferry the same day, a car from the terminal to the port keeps the connection in one booking.

Arriving at Your Address in Harwich

For the ferry, write Harwich International Port as the address and add your sailing time. Stena Line runs the route to the Hook of Holland from Parkeston, and the check-in deadline your ferry company gives decides how early you need to be there.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For a hotel or house in the old town or in Dovercourt, which is now the main shopping area, the street and number will do.

If you stay a night before sailing, there is history to see in the old town. The Mayflower was registered at Harwich, and its captain, Christopher Jones, is believed to have been born here. The Redoubt fort dates from the Napoleonic wars, and the Electric Palace, built in 1911, is one of the oldest purpose-built cinemas still standing.

From Harwich Back to London Stansted Airport

Allow 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes for the return drive on an ordinary day, almost all of it on the A120. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Stansted has no second terminal to confuse things, so the booking needs just the port or your address and the flight.

Coming off a ferry from the Hook of Holland, set the pick-up time from the scheduled arrival of the boat plus the time it takes to leave the port, and add the drive and the airline's check-in time on top. The chauffeur follows flights, not ships: if the sailing runs late, tell support straight away so the pick-up can be moved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How far is Harwich from Stansted Airport?

Harwich is 53 miles from the terminal, normally 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes by car, with the A120 doing nearly all the work.

My flight into Stansted is late and I have a ferry to catch at Harwich. What happens?

The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time, but the sailing time does not move with your flight. Leave a wide margin between the scheduled landing and the check-in deadline of your ferry company.

At Stansted Airport, where will my chauffeur be?

In the Short Stay car parks by the single terminal. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Where do the ferries to the Hook of Holland leave from?

From Harwich International Port at Parkeston, upstream of the old town on the River Stour; Stena Line runs the route. Put the port as the destination and add your sailing time to the booking.

A coach party is flying into Stansted and sailing to the Netherlands the same day. What do we book?

For the members on the same flight, one vehicle: a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats. Tell us the number of cases, and leave plenty of time before the ferry check-in.

What do you need to know about London Stansted Airport in 2026–2027?

Visitors who do not need a visa for the UK, other than British and Irish citizens, must hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they travel. This applies at the ferry port as well as at the airport. At Stansted itself, construction of skylinks to the satellite gates started in summer 2026.
