One-Way Service
One-Way Service covers one journey between two addresses: the terminal to an office in the City, the airport to a hotel in Mayfair, a flat in Greenwich to London City Airport for a morning flight. For an airport pick-up, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules. For a departure, the time is yours to pick.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: the terminal to a Canary Wharf hotel on Monday morning and back to the terminal on Thursday evening, or the airport to a stand at ExCeL and back after the last show day. During large exhibitions, cars around the Royal Docks are taken well ahead. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Some arrival days do not end at one address. With hourly service from LCY you choose at booking where the day starts, where it ends and how many hours you need, and the same chauffeur and vehicle remain with you for that whole period. Send the day's programme with the booking, so the chauffeur has it before you land. It suits a day built around appointments rather than a single destination.

Chauffeur Service at London City Airport (LCY)

London City Airport handled 3.74 million passengers in 2025. It has a single terminal in the Royal Docks, in the London Borough of Newham, and the airport gives its distance to the City of London as five miles. Pre-booked cars collect passengers from the pick-up area in the Short Stay car park.

Canary Wharf is about 4 miles away, 20–30 minutes. Greenwich is 5 miles, 25–35 minutes, and Stratford 6 miles, 30–40 minutes. Westminster is 9 miles, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes; Mayfair is 10 miles, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. Islington, to the north, is 10 miles, 40–55 minutes. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

On arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules. For a return flight, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Sprinter Van Service at London City Airport (LCY)

Exhibition teams have a good reason to fly into City Airport: the ExCeL exhibition centre stands on Royal Victoria Dock, about 1 mile from the terminal, 10–15 minutes by road. The London Book Fair is held at ExCeL on 16–18 March 2027. A stand crew brings sample cases, display stands and rolled banners on top of personal bags; a Sprinter van carries up to 12 passengers with their luggage. Count the boxes as well as the suitcases in the booking, and the vehicle is matched to the load.

If a delegation comes from several European cities on the same morning, it lands on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own, and when you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. The port is another angle: Tilbury, home of a deep-water cruise terminal on the Thames, is 21 miles from the airport, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes.

Trade shows next door bring the biggest groups. DSEI, the defence and security exhibition, fills ExCeL from 7 to 10 September 2027 and drew around 45,000 attendees at its last edition; before that, the London International Horse Show runs at ExCeL from 17 to 21 December 2026. Coaches come in several sizes with up to 56 seats, and the luggage travels in the hold, so a delegation reaches its hotel in one run.

Concert and arena groups head across the river to The O2, about 4 miles, 20–30 minutes. University and school groups travel further: Cambridge is 56 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes, and Canterbury 58 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes.

Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early during big exhibitions at ExCeL. If your hotel or office is inside a private estate or on a narrow City lane, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

Where is London City Airport?

In the Royal Docks, in the east London borough of Newham, between Royal Albert Dock and King George V Dock. The ExCeL exhibition centre is about 1 mile away, 10–15 minutes by car, and the airport has its own DLR station.

How do I get to London City Airport by public transport?

The DLR has a station at the terminal: Canning Town and Woolwich Arsenal are under 7 minutes away, Stratford International 17 minutes, with trains every 8–15 minutes. If you continue by train and want a car at the other end, add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

Does London City Airport charge for drop-offs at the terminal?

Yes, since 6 January 2026. Cameras read number plates in the drop-off zone, vehicles may stay there for up to 10 minutes, and payment goes through the airport's online drop-off portal. Pick-ups take place in the Short Stay car park. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

Our group arrives on different flights — can that be arranged?

Yes. Each arrival is a separate booking, so colleagues flying in from Amsterdam and Zurich an hour apart need two transfers. Before you book a van for an exhibition team, tell support how many cases, boxes or sports bags travel with the party, not only the number of passengers. In ExCeL show weeks, book early.

Is London City Airport open on Saturday afternoons?

No. The airport closes at 12:30 on Saturdays. When the government raised its annual passenger limit from 6.5 to 9 million in August 2024, it refused the request to keep flying until 18:30 on Saturdays, so the afternoon closure stays in place. Plan weekend trips around a Saturday morning or a Sunday flight.

What do passengers need to know about London City Airport (LCY) in 2026 and 2027?

The airport celebrates 40 years of flights in 2027 and plans to open a new premium lounge, run by Aspire, by early 2027. Since 2 March 2026 it has consulted on a shallower approach that would let larger Airbus A320neo aircraft land. At security, the 100 ml limit for liquids still applied in August 2026.
