Airport Transfers from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to London

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Terminal 3 to a hotel in Covent Garden, Terminal 2 to an office in the City, or a Mayfair hotel to Terminal 5 for BA's JFK service. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; for a departure, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Terminal 5 to a hotel on Park Lane when you arrive, and back out to Heathrow at the end of a week of meetings. During Winter Wonderland season and Marathon weekend, cars in central London are reserved early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at LHR, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

London Heathrow Airport to London: Route and Drive Time

The airport belongs to Hillingdon, London's westernmost borough. The centre of London, measured at Charing Cross, is 17 miles east of the terminals, normally 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes by car. The usual approach is the M4 and the A4 through west London, entering the centre past Kensington and Knightsbridge.

What decides the last part is the district you are going to. The West End and Mayfair hold the big hotels, theatres and shops; the City, the old financial district, lies further east; around King's Cross and St Pancras, former railway land now holds offices. A drive to the City or King's Cross takes longer than one to Kensington, because the car has to cross the West End first.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. The morning and evening rush hours stretch the figures above.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London Heathrow Airport

Heathrow's four terminals, 2, 3, 4 and 5, handled a record 84.5 million passengers in 2025, and each has its own car parks, so give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Rail is the other way into town, but it has changed this year. The Heathrow Express runs non-stop to Paddington, and the Elizabeth line continues through central London, yet the station under Terminals 2 and 3 has been closed since 25 June 2026. Anyone landing at 2 or 3 who wants the train into Paddington is now sent round to 4 or 5 first; by car, that detour disappears.

Arriving at Your Address in London

Central London is a series of quarters, each with its own streets and access rules. Mayfair and Park Lane have the grand hotels; Covent Garden and Soho the theatres; the City and Canary Wharf the banks and law firms. The City and the West End are inside the Congestion Charge zone.

Oxford Street changes on 26 October 2026: the stretch from Orchard Street to Great Portland Street shuts to vehicles, as a trial to be judged by spring 2027. For a hotel or office on or close to it, or on another street with limited access, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

Some journeys continue by rail. If you land at Heathrow and go on from St Pancras International by Eurostar, or from Euston or King's Cross to the north, the car can take you straight to the station.

From London Back to London Heathrow Airport

Going back to the airport, think in terms of drive length: 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes in normal traffic, and more on a weekday morning or late afternoon, when west London's main roads fill up. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Your airline sets the terminal. BA passengers go to Terminal 5; the Star Alliance carriers mostly to Terminal 2; Virgin Atlantic to Terminal 3; and the SkyTeam group, led here by Air France and KLM, to Terminal 4. Since the airport is weighing a reshuffle of airlines, recheck your ticket before booking.

Big events close streets and slow traffic. Winter Wonderland fills Hyde Park from 19 November 2026 until 3 January 2027, and the London Marathon is held on 24 and 25 April 2027. On those days, allow extra time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

Door of the terminal to Charing Cross: how many minutes by road?

To Charing Cross the drive is 17 miles, normally 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. Kensington is closer and the City further, so the exact street matters when you book.

We land at Heathrow close to midnight. Can we still book a car?

Yes. The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time, whatever the hour. With the flight number in the booking, a delay shifts the pick-up automatically.

Where at Heathrow does the chauffeur meet us?

At your arrival terminal. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Is central London inside the Congestion Charge zone?

The City and the West End are. Charging hours are 07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday and 12:00–18:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays; chauffeur cars booked in advance get no exemption. The Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every London borough around the clock. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

A delegation of 30 is flying in for a conference. How do we book?

If they land together, one coach can take them all; if the delegates are spread over several flights, book a transfer per flight. When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation.

What do you need to know about London Heathrow Airport in 2026–2027?

The rail station for Terminals 2 and 3 has been closed since 25 June 2026, and the closure of Terminal 4's car park on 23 June moved its pick-ups to a zone of their own. In the West End, the Orchard Street to Great Portland Street section of Oxford Street loses its traffic from 26 October 2026.
