London Heathrow Airport to Highgate: Route and Drive Time
On the north-eastern edge of Hampstead Heath, Highgate covers a hill in north London and is divided between Haringey, Camden and Islington. Heathrow lies on the western edge of the capital, and the ride up to Highgate is 21 miles, normally 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes, across the north-western suburbs.
At the summit of Highgate Hill is the old village, grouped around Pond Square and Highgate School, which dates from 1565. Further down are the streets served by three Northern line stations, Highgate, Archway and East Finchley, so the final climb depends on which side of the hill your address is on.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. The roads into north London are at their busiest on weekday mornings and evenings; a late arrival may reach the village sooner than a morning one.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London Heathrow Airport
If you are flying to Highgate from abroad, your airline decides the terminal. As a rule, many Star Alliance airlines use Terminal 2, while Terminal 3 is used by Virgin Atlantic along with other long-haul operators; British Airways flies from Terminal 5. Give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.
After an overnight flight from North America or Asia, a visit to the cemetery or the Heath can wait: the car takes you to your address in Highgate first.

Arriving at Your Address in Highgate
Highgate village has narrow lanes, old houses and a registered village green at Pond Square, and some addresses are reached by small roads off the main streets. If your address is on one of those lanes, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.
Two of the best-known places nearby are a short drive from the village. Highgate Cemetery, the Victorian cemetery with the graves of Karl Marx, George Eliot and Michael Faraday, has its own gates on Swain's Lane, and Kenwood House stands on the northern edge of Hampstead Heath. Highgate Wood and Waterlow Park are close as well.
For a family arriving for Highgate School, add the house or school building to the booking notes.

From Highgate Back to London Heathrow Airport
Plan on 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes for the drive to the airport, and more on weekday mornings. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
The four terminals are far apart, so name yours when you book. Airlines may move between terminals while Heathrow reviews the allocation; if you travel in 2027, look at the ticket again a few days before the flight.
From 11 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, the world darts championship fills Alexandra Palace, close to Highgate, with no play from 24 to 27 December. With an evening flight on a session day, set off earlier, as the roads near the venue can be busy.
