Airport Transfers from London City Airport (LCY) to London

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: the terminal to a bank in the Square Mile, the airport to a theatre-district hotel near Covent Garden, or an office at King's Cross to London City for the evening flight. After touchdown, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; for a departure, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: London City to a hotel in Mayfair on Monday morning, with the return to the docks after your final City meeting on Wednesday. In marathon week and the run-up to Christmas, central London cars are booked early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at LCY, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

London City Airport to London: Route and Drive Time

London City Airport stands in the Royal Docks, east of the centre, and the airport itself describes the City of London as five miles away. To the West End and Charing Cross, the reference point for central London, the drive is 9 miles, normally 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes. The car follows the river west through the East End, and the last miles are city streets rather than fast roads.

The address decides the time more than the distance. The Square Mile, the historic financial district, is reached first; Westminster is 9 miles from the terminal, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes, and Mayfair 10 miles, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London City Airport

London City is built for short business trips: one terminal, a short distance to the City, and 3.74 million passengers in 2025. Cars booked in advance do not pull up at the terminal doors; their pick-up zone is in the Short Stay car park.

Whatever time you touch down, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

The DLR from the terminal is the rail alternative, with trains every 8–15 minutes. If you are carrying more than a laptop bag, or heading to a hotel in the West End, the car saves the changes on the way.

Arriving at Your Address in London

Business in central London is spread over several districts. The Square Mile, the City, runs its own local government; Canary Wharf, on the Isle of Dogs, is nearer the airport; Mayfair and the West End have the large hotels, theatres and shops; around King's Cross and St Pancras a newer office quarter has grown up.

Between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street, Oxford Street is shut to vehicles from 26 October 2026, a trial due for review through spring 2027. For a hotel or meeting on or near that section, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

For a City office, add the building name and entrance, as many towers have more than one door on different streets.

From London Back to London City Airport

Plan the drive to the airport by its length: 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes from the West End on an ordinary day, less from the City, more in the evening rush. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

London City has one terminal, so all departures leave from the same building. Remember that the airport closes at 12:30 on Saturdays: a weekend trip home means a Saturday morning or a Sunday flight.

In winter, the Winter Wonderland fair occupies Hyde Park between 19 November 2026 and 3 January 2027, and the roads around the park are busy in the evenings. If you are staying near Park Lane, leave a margin for a late flight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long does it take from London City Airport to central London by car?

Normally 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes for the 9 miles to the West End. The City of London is closer, which the airport itself puts at five miles.

My London City flight is delayed. Do I need to call the chauffeur?

No call is needed. The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Only a switch to a different flight should be reported to support, with its number.

Where is the pick-up point for chauffeur cars at London City?

Chauffeur cars collect from a zone within the airport's Short Stay car park. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Will the car enter the Congestion Charge zone on the way to my hotel?

Yes, if the hotel is in the City or the West End: the zone covers both and applies from 07:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and from 12:00 to 18:00 at weekends and on bank holidays. The Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every London borough around the clock. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

Can a delegation arriving on different flights be handled together?

Yes. When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation, and on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. Enter the number of bags in the booking form; for golf bags, bikes or other bulky items, tell support so the vehicle is matched to the load.

What do you need to know about London City Airport in 2026–2027?

Cars are barred from the Orchard Street to Great Portland Street part of Oxford Street from 26 October 2026, on a trial reviewed through spring 2027. The London Book Fair is at ExCeL, next to the airport, from 16 to 18 March 2027.
