One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Royal Docks arrivals to a guest house beside Greenwich Park, the terminal to a University of Greenwich residence, or a Peninsula flat back to the airport for the first Edinburgh departure. For an arrival, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; for a flight out, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: the terminal to a hotel near the Cutty Sark on Friday morning and back to the docks on Sunday evening, or the airport to the Peninsula before a show at The O2 and out again after a weekend of concerts. On marathon weekend, cars here go early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at LCY, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

London City Airport to Greenwich: Route and Drive Time

The airport and Greenwich face each other across a bend of the Thames. The Royal Docks are on the north bank, the Royal Borough of Greenwich on the south, and the drive between them is 5 miles, normally 25–35 minutes. On the map it is barely a hop; most of those minutes go on getting over the river.

Greenwich has two ends, and the address tells the chauffeur which one you need. The Peninsula, with The O2 and North Greenwich station, comes first after the river. The old town, with the Cutty Sark, the Old Royal Naval College and the park climbing up to the Royal Observatory, lies further south-west along the riverside. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London City Airport

Squeezed onto the strip of land between two Royal Docks basins, the airport has just one terminal, so a Greenwich booking never asks which. Your chauffeur stands in the Short Stay car park, since the terminal doors are off limits to pre-booked cars.

Once your flight is in the booking, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

A note for weekend visitors: the airport closes at 12:30 on Saturdays and opens again for Sunday flights, so a Saturday city break in Greenwich starts with a morning landing.

Arriving at Your Address in Greenwich

UNESCO lists Maritime Greenwich, the riverside ensemble of the Observatory, the Cutty Sark and the Naval College, whose buildings the University of Greenwich now uses for teaching. The streets around the market and the college are narrow, so for a hotel, a museum entrance or a flat by the river, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

On the Peninsula the roads are wider and newer. If you are staying near The O2 for a concert, give the hotel name as well as the street, as several buildings share long addresses there.

If the park is your first stop, the chauffeur can set you down by the gate nearest your hotel so the bags go in before the climb to the Observatory.

From Greenwich Back to London City Airport

The run back to the Royal Docks takes 25–35 minutes on an ordinary day. The tunnels under the river queue in the morning peak, so for a flight before nine, add a margin to the pick-up. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

London City has one terminal, and the flight number is enough for the car to know where to go.

Marathon runners set off from Greenwich, and the 2027 race spreads over 24 and 25 April. Roads in the area close on both mornings, so if you fly out that weekend, choose a pick-up well before the start or after the roads reopen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

London City Airport to Greenwich: how quick is the car?

About 25–35 minutes for 5 miles, across the river from the Royal Docks. The Peninsula is reached first; the Cutty Sark and the Observatory take a few minutes more.

The plane to London City is late. Should we phone the chauffeur?

There is no need to phone. The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time, so the car follows the delay. Write to support only when you move onto a new flight.

Greenwich is so close. Is the car outside the terminal door?

Greenwich passengers leave the single terminal for the Short Stay car park; pre-booked cars load there. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Are the river tunnels between the Royal Docks and Greenwich charged?

Yes. The Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels are charged between 06:00 and 22:00, and the tunnel charges changed on 21 September 2026. The Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every London borough around the clock. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

Thirty pupils are visiting the Royal Observatory. Which vehicles fit?

Thirty pupils and their cases ride in one coach, or are split across three Sprinter vans. Tell us the number of suitcases as well as pupils, and if teachers land on another flight, book that arrival separately.

What do you need to know about London City Airport in 2026–2027?

London City turns 40 in 2027; an Aspire premium lounge is due to open there by early that year. The 2027 London Marathon starts in Greenwich on 24 and 25 April, so plan airport runs that weekend around road closures.
