Getting Around Salamanca

Salamanca is a university city, and its historic centre is on the UNESCO list: the University, the Plaza Mayor, the Casa de las Conchas, the towers of the Clerecía and the Roman bridge over the Tormes. Congresses meet at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Castilla y León on the Cuesta de Oviedo.

The railway station is on the Paseo de la Estación, less than 15 minutes' walk from the centre, with long-distance trains that include services to Madrid. Include your train details and arrival time when booking so we can arrange your pickup at the station.

For a visiting lecturer with a full day at the University and the Palacio de Congresos, hourly service reserves one chauffeur and one vehicle for the hours you book. Send the plan for the day with the booking.

Vehicle access to the pedestrian zone in the centre is controlled by number-plate cameras. Non-resident vehicles may enter only when registered with the city for a justified reason, and hotels register their own guests' cars. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Airport Transfers in Salamanca

Madrid-Barajas (MAD) is a major arrival airport for travellers heading to Salamanca. It is about 230 km to the south-east, and the transfer takes 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 25 minutes: one car from the terminal to your address in Salamanca, with the luggage loaded once.

The route leaves Madrid on the A-6 and AP-6 through the Sierra de Guadarrama, takes the AP-51 to Ávila and then the A-50 west to Salamanca. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

Book with your flight number. For airport pickups, your chauffeur monitors your flight and adjusts the pickup if your arrival time changes. Your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. Leaving Salamanca, allow for the drive to the airport when choosing your pickup time: 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 25 minutes to Barajas, longer if the Madrid ring roads are busy. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Cross-Border Travel from Salamanca

A stay in Salamanca can continue in other historic cities of Castile and León. Ávila is about 105 km to the east, Valladolid about 118 km north-east and León about 205 km north, far enough that a move between them with luggage works best as one booking from hotel to hotel. Madrid, about 213 km away, is a journey of its own, for a meeting in the capital or a night there before a flight home.

Portugal is the nearest foreign country. The A-62 reaches the frontier at Fuentes de Oñoro and Vilar Formoso, about 125 km to the west, and continues as the Portuguese A25; Porto is about 350 km by that road. The trip is booked like any other, with the same chauffeur and car from start to finish, with no change of vehicle at the border.

Spain and Portugal are both in the Schengen area, and neither country has notified checks on the land frontier between them; internal checks can, however, be reintroduced at short notice. Carry the travel documents your nationality and itinerary require.

Groups & Congress Travel in Salamanca

Students are among the groups that come to Salamanca. Before 2020, about 34,000 students of Spanish came to the city each year, according to a 2020 report in El País. A language-school intake or a study-abroad programme is one example: many people on different flights, heading for the same few addresses, with a lot of luggage.

For the person organising it, one account holds the programme, and each transfer is reserved and confirmed on its own: students from Barajas, a teacher arriving by train, a group going on to a welcome dinner. Where a group moves together, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats.

The dates to book early are Holy Week, a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional, in March or April, and the fiestas of the Virgen de la Vega in September, which run for nearly two weeks. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early for those dates. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Chauffeur Service in Salamanca

1-12 passengers For business
Trusted by professionals at
Round-Trip Service
Arrival and return, arranged in one booking. In Salamanca the return matters most in Holy Week and during the September fiestas, when local vehicles are taken well before the date. Reserving both legs together holds your journey back from the start, so the drive back to Madrid-Barajas or to a Madrid hotel is fixed early, and you set both pickup times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service is booked by time, not by route. Name the address in Salamanca where the day starts, the address where it finishes and how many hours you want, and one chauffeur and one car are reserved for you for that time. Share the plan for the day when you book, and the chauffeur will have it in advance. It suits a day of meetings or visits rather than one ride across town.
One-Way Service
A single journey between two addresses: Madrid-Barajas to a hotel near the Plaza Mayor, Salamanca station to the Palacio de Congresos, Salamanca to Porto for the next part of a trip. Route and timing are set when you book. For an airport pickup your chauffeur monitors your flight and adjusts the pickup if your arrival time changes, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; for a departure, you set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
