Getting Around Estepona
Estepona calls itself the garden of the Costa del Sol. Its old town has white houses, quiet squares and pedestrian streets lined with flowerpots, with the Plaza de las Flores at its centre. The municipal route of artistic murals, begun in 2012 and now comprising 34 works, adds painted walls to the walk. Below the old town the seafront promenade runs about 2.5 km from Punta La Plata to the marina. The old town and the promenade sit side by side, so from a hotel there the evening starts on foot; addresses further along the municipality's 22 km of coastline are a drive from both.
Estepona has no railway station. The nearest high-speed station is Málaga María Zambrano, about 88 km east, and from there Estepona is between 1 hour 10 minutes and 1 hour 35 minutes away by road. Include your train details and arrival time when booking so we can arrange your pickup at the station.
For a night somewhere else, Casares is about 27 km away in the hills behind the coast, and Puerto Banús about 26 km east. A transfer there and another back to Estepona, at the times you choose, cover the evening.
Most of the historic centre, between Avenida de Andalucía, Avenida de San Lorenzo and the seafront, forms the low-emission zone that the town council has brought in by phases. Send us the full address at booking, and we will say how close to it the car can get.

Airport Transfers to Estepona
Estepona sits between two airports. Málaga-Costa del Sol, about 84 km east, is the main airport for the town; the transfer is a drive of between 1 hour 5 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes. Gibraltar International Airport is nearer, about 47 km west, and the drive takes 45 minutes to 1 hour when your flight lands there.
Both drives use the AP-7 and A-7 along the coast. The Málaga run passes Marbella, about 34 km from Estepona, on the way in. The Gibraltar run passes Sotogrande and then crosses the land frontier at La Línea. Journey times vary with traffic and the time of day.
Book with your flight number: your chauffeur monitors your flight and adjusts the pickup if your arrival time changes. Your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. Leaving Estepona, allow for the drive to the airport when choosing your pickup time: between 1 hour 5 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes to Málaga, 45 minutes to 1 hour to Gibraltar, longer in feria week and in August. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Cross-Border Travel from Estepona
Some holidays on this part of the coast are split between two bases. A week in Estepona can be followed by Marbella, about 34 km east, or the marina at Sotogrande, about 29 km west, and each change of base is a single booking, hotel to hotel, with all the luggage in the car.
Ronda, about 65 km inland, is the day trip into the mountains, and Málaga, about 90 km east, is the city stay within reach. Estepona is not on the rail network, so a train journey from here starts with the drive to Málaga; by car the whole journey is one run without a change.
Gibraltar, about 48 km west, is the trip across the frontier, for a day on the Rock or the last nights of a holiday. It is an ordinary booking, with the same chauffeur and car from start to finish, with no change of vehicle at the border.
Gibraltar is not part of the EU, and the frontier at La Línea is still a border crossing. Have with you the documents that your nationality and route call for.

Groups, Luggage & Summer Travel in Estepona
Many of the groups that come to Estepona are families, and their luggage requirements vary: buggies and beach bags for a fortnight, toys for the children, cases for a month in a rented villa. Tell us what you are bringing and the vehicle is matched to the load. A Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats. If the group arrives on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own.
The town's own peak is the Feria y Fiestas Mayores, held over a week in July, in the middle of the summer season on the coast.
The dates to book early are the feria week in July and the rest of July and August. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early for those dates. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
