Airport Transfers from or to Newcastle International Airport (NCL)

Trusted by professionals at
One-Way Service
One-Way Service covers one journey between two addresses: NCL to an office on the Quayside, the terminal to a hotel in Durham, a house in Morpeth to the airport for an early flight to Dubai. For an airport pick-up, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules. For the return leg to the airport, you name the hour.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: from the terminal to a hotel in Jesmond when you land, and back to NCL at the end of your stay, or out to North Shields for the overnight ferry to Amsterdam and back when you return. On race weekend in September, local cars go quickly. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Some arrival days do not end at one address. With hourly service from NCL you choose at booking where the day starts, where it ends and how many hours you need, and the same chauffeur and vehicle remain with you for that whole period. Send the day's programme with the booking, so the chauffeur has it before you land. It suits a day built around appointments rather than a single destination.

Chauffeur Service at Newcastle International Airport (NCL)

The airport handled 5.48 million passengers in 2025, according to CAA figures. Its single terminal is being enlarged with a three-storey building for a larger departure lounge and international baggage hall. Since 6 January 2026 drivers who come to collect arrivals are directed to the Callerton Parkway waiting zone, which a shuttle links to the front of the terminal.

The airport lies at Woolsington, north-west of the city. Newcastle city centre is 10 miles, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. Durham, with its cathedral and castle, is about 28 miles, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes. Alnwick Castle in Northumberland is about 38 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes to 2 hours, and the Roman fort at Housesteads on Hadrian's Wall about 33 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes.

Once you land, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules. Leaving from NCL? You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Sprinter Van Service at Newcastle International Airport (NCL)

Some passengers land at NCL only to sail on. The DFDS ferry to Amsterdam leaves daily from the Port of Tyne terminal at North Shields, about 17 miles from the airport, 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes. A family or a club travelling this way carries luggage for both legs, and a Sprinter van carries up to 12 passengers with their luggage. Put every case in the booking, and the vehicle is matched to the load. If relatives fly in from Dublin and London on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own.

Football brings groups of its own: St James' Park, home of Newcastle United, holds about 52,000. Sunderland's Stadium of Light is about 25 miles from the terminal, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes. When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation.

Coach Service at Newcastle International Airport (NCL)

The Great North Run 2027 is on Sunday 12 September, from Newcastle to South Shields, and the junior events take place by the river on the Saturday. Charity teams and running clubs fly in for it, and coaches come in several sizes with up to 56 seats, and the luggage travels in the hold, so a team of fifty arrives at its hotel in one vehicle.

Touring parties continue north. Bamburgh, on the Northumberland coast, is about 54 miles from the airport, 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes, and Edinburgh about 102 miles by the A1, 2 hours 55 minutes to 3 hours 50 minutes. For a hotel near the Quayside, send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early for the Great North Run weekend and for home matches. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

Who owns Newcastle Airport?

Seven North East councils, known as LA7, hold 51% of the airport, and a private partner holds the other 49%. On 7 May 2026 the Spanish operator Aena completed the purchase of a 51% stake in the holding company that owns that 49% share, together with Leeds Bradford Airport.

Is there a charge to drop off at Newcastle Airport?

Yes. The 15-minute drop-off and pick-up at Short Stay 2 that cost nothing ended on 6 January 2026, so stopping at the terminal is now charged. Drivers collecting arrivals are sent to the Callerton Parkway waiting zone, with a shuttle to the terminal every 30 minutes. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

Does Newcastle have a Clean Air Zone?

It does: the zone shared by Newcastle and Gateshead covers the city centre and applies around the clock. It is a Class C zone, so private cars are not charged; vans, minibuses, buses, coaches and lorries that miss its emission standards are. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

How far is Newcastle Airport from the city centre?

By car, Newcastle city centre is 10 miles, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. The Tyne and Wear Metro runs from the terminal to Haymarket, Monument and Central in about 25 minutes, which suits light luggage; with families, cases or a group, a booked car or van takes you to the hotel entrance.

Our group arrives on different flights — can that be arranged?

Yes. A running club landing from London and from Amsterdam on race weekend needs a separate transfer for each of those flights. Before you book a van, tell support how many cases, boxes or sports bags travel with the party, not only the number of passengers. For the Great North Run weekend, book early.

What do passengers need to know about Newcastle International Airport (NCL) in 2026 and 2027?

easyJet has had a base at the airport since 22 March 2026, and new winter routes start to Fuerteventura on 25 October, Krakow on 26 October and Reykjavik on 27 October 2026. Work on the terminal extension continues, with no completion date announced, and the Great North Run takes place on 12 September 2027.
