Southend Airport handled 720,000 passengers in 2025, up from 288,000 a year earlier, after easyJet made it a base on 31 March 2025. Flights use one terminal, and the airport's own railway station is a short walk away. In 2026 the airport opened an Express Pick-up and Drop-off area beside the Short Stay car park, directly opposite the terminal, where a vehicle may stop for up to 10 minutes.
The airport lies next to Rochford in south-east Essex. Rochford is 2 miles, 10–15 minutes, and Southend-on-Sea 3 miles, 20–30 minutes. Rayleigh is 6 miles, 20–30 minutes, and Basildon 14 miles, 35–50 minutes. Chelmsford, the county town, is 20 miles, 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes. Central London is about 42 miles to the west, 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes by road.
After landing, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pick-up to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules. For the flight home, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Sprinter Van Service at London Southend Airport (SEN)
Tilbury, on the Thames, has London's only deep-water, purpose-built cruise terminal, and Ambassador Cruise Line sails from there through 2027. Tilbury is 22 miles from Southend Airport, 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes. A couple of families who fly in for a cruise bring cases packed for a week or two on board; a Sprinter van carries up to 12 passengers with their luggage, and it goes straight from the terminal to the ship. Name each suitcase in the booking, and the vehicle is matched to the load. When relatives land on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own.
Taller vehicles follow their own rule at this airport: anything over 2 metres high or 5 metres long must use the Mid Stay car park, not the express area. Some parties also split between two airports. Stansted Airport is a drive of 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes from here, and when you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation.

Coach Service at London Southend Airport (SEN)
School parties, sports clubs and exhibition teams can arrive at Southend as one large group on a single easyJet flight. Coaches come in several sizes with up to 56 seats, and the luggage travels in the hold, so nobody waits for a second vehicle.
Exhibitions in east London draw such groups. The London Book Fair takes place at ExCeL London from 16 to 18 March 2027, and the exhibition centre is about 35 miles from the airport, 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes. School and student groups go further north: Cambridge is 65 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes, and Brentwood 20 miles, 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes.
Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early in the school summer holidays. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.
