Airport Transfers from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Southampton

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Terminal 5 to the Horizon terminal for an MSC sailing, Terminal 2 to a hotel by the waterfront the night before boarding, or the QEII terminal to Terminal 4 after you disembark. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; for a departure, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Terminal 3 to Mayflower on the day you sail, and from Mayflower back to Heathrow when the ship returns a week or two later. Put both voyage dates in the booking. In the summer season, cars on this route go early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at LHR, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

London Heathrow Airport to Southampton: Route and Drive Time

Southampton is on the south coast of Hampshire, south-west of Heathrow, and from the airport to the city centre it is 67 miles, normally 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes. Almost all of it is motorway: a short stretch of the M25 and then the M3 south past Winchester, before the last miles into the city and the docks.

If you are joining a cruise, the end point is a ship rather than the city. Associated British Ports runs the docks, where ships berth at five cruise terminals: Horizon, the newest, alongside Ocean, QEII, City Cruise and Mayflower. Ocean Terminal is 67 miles from Heathrow, 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes, about the same as the city centre. Others are heading for a hotel, the university or a family home.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Give your Heathrow terminal and your cruise terminal or address when you book.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London Heathrow Airport

Passengers flying in to join a ship can land at any of the four Heathrow terminals, 2 to 5. Give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks.

For your arrival, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

With a sailing the same day, set the margin yourself. A flight that lands late eats into the time before boarding closes, so if the plans allow, fly in the day before and stay near the port.

Arriving at Your Address in Southampton

In the booking form you can choose a cruise terminal as the start or end of the ride, so enter the terminal's name rather than just the city. Check your cruise documents: P&O Cruises sails from Mayflower, while MSC, Norwegian, Oceania and Regent use Horizon. The car takes you to the terminal; boarding and luggage drop are handled by the cruise line.

If you are staying in the city before sailing, give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. The University of Southampton and Southampton Central station are the other common addresses.

For a hotel near the waterfront, the hotel name helps as much as the street.

From Southampton Back to London Heathrow Airport

After the cruise, plan by the length of the drive: 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes on a normal day, more at the M25 end at busy times. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it. We do not track the ship, so choose a pick-up that leaves room for leaving the ship and collecting your cases.

Put the departure terminal at Heathrow in the booking. The terminals are far apart, so the right number matters.

If more than one ship turns round at the port on your disembarkation morning, leave a good margin before your flight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How far is Southampton from Heathrow?

The city centre is 67 miles by road, normally 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes, mostly on the M3. The cruise terminals are about the same distance.

What if my flight lands late on the day my cruise sails?

The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time, but the ship will not wait. Leave a wide margin, or arrive the day before and book a separate transfer to the terminal.

Where at Heathrow does the chauffeur pick me up?

Cruise passengers are met like everyone else at Heathrow, in the terminal car parks; forecourt collections are banned. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Can you take me from Heathrow straight to my cruise terminal in Southampton?

Yes. Your drop-off point can be the cruise terminal itself, picked in the booking form; choose Ocean, Mayflower, City Cruise, QEII or Horizon as named in your cruise documents. We do not track ships, so set the pick-up time for the return yourself.

We are 10 people with large cruise suitcases. Will everything fit?

Yes. Ten passengers fit in one Sprinter van, which has 12 seats. Put the number of suitcases in the booking form, and if anything is oversized, such as golf bags, write to support first.

What do you need to know about London Heathrow Airport in 2026–2027?

Heathrow's station for Terminals 2 and 3 has not reopened since it closed on 25 June 2026. In Southampton, MSC Meraviglia is due on 18 May 2027 for a six-month season, and P&O Cruises plans to base Britannia at the port from October 2027.
