Airport Transfers from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Luton

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Terminal 5 to the University of Bedfordshire campus, Terminal 2 to a hotel at Luton Hoo, or a house near Wardown Park to Terminal 4 for a late Air France flight. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; for a departure, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Terminal 3 to a family home in Leagrave for relatives spending the summer, with the drive out to Terminal 3 booked for their September departure. Around graduation week, cars in the town go early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at LHR, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

London Heathrow Airport to Luton: Route and Drive Time

Luton is a town in Bedfordshire, and this page is about the town itself, not Luton Airport on its eastern edge. From the Heathrow terminals the drive is 36 miles, normally 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes, first on the M25 and then up the M1, which serves the town at Junctions 10 and 11.

Which junction the car uses depends on the address. The town centre, with the University of Bedfordshire's main campus and Luton station, is reached from the south; Leagrave, with its own station, lies on the north-western side.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. For a house in one of the outer estates, the postcode is the most useful part of the address.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London Heathrow Airport

Heathrow's arrivals are split across Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5; give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

If your long-haul route does not use the town's own airport, which works from one terminal, this transfer brings you home from Heathrow instead. The rail alternative goes via central London and a Thameslink train, and from the airport it starts at Terminal 4 or 5 while the Terminals 2 and 3 station is closed.

Arriving at Your Address in Luton

Hat-making made Luton prosperous from the 1600s, a trade remembered in the nickname of Luton Town FC and in the museum at Wardown Park beside the Lea. The University of Bedfordshire teaches mainly in the town centre, with a further campus at Putteridge Bury.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For a student hall or a campus building, add its name.

South of the town, the Grade I listed house and estate of Luton Hoo is a separate destination from an address in the town itself, so name it in the booking.

From Luton Back to London Heathrow Airport

Plan the return as a drive of 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes along the M1 and the M25, with more time in the weekday rush. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Make sure the booking names Heathrow and your terminal, not Luton Airport. At Heathrow, British Airways uses Terminal 5, SkyTeam carriers Terminal 4, Virgin Atlantic Terminal 3 and many Star Alliance airlines Terminal 2, a split that Heathrow currently has under review.

On Luton Town home match days at Kenilworth Road, roads near the ground get busier, so leave a bigger margin if your flight is that evening.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How far is Luton town from Heathrow?

The town centre is 36 miles from Heathrow by road, normally 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes via the M25 and the M1. Rush hours can push it to the longer figure.

My long-haul flight into Heathrow is running late. Do I need to call anyone?

No. The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time, so the car adjusts to the new arrival. Keep the flight number in your booking.

Arriving at Heathrow for Luton, where is my car?

Heathrow does not allow pick-ups on the terminal forecourts; collections take place from the terminal car parks. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules. Terminal 4 uses a separate pick-up area.

Is this transfer to Luton Airport or to Luton town?

To the town. Luton Airport is a separate destination: 3 miles from the town centre, 15–20 minutes. If you need to connect from Heathrow to a flight at Luton Airport, name the airport, not a town address, when you book.

We are a graduation party of ten. Can we travel together from Heathrow?

Yes. Ten people with luggage fit in one vehicle: a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats. List the cases in the booking, and the vehicle is matched to the load.

What do you need to know about London Heathrow Airport in 2026–2027?

Two June 2026 closures still apply: the Terminal 4 multi-storey from the 23rd and, from the 25th, Heathrow's Terminals 2 and 3 train station. Heathrow also runs a consultation on its expansion from 27 October to 22 December 2026.
