Airport Transfers from London City Airport (LCY) to Putney

Trusted by professionals at
One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: the terminal to a flat on the Embankment, the airport to a home just off the South Circular, or a house near Putney station to the docks for an evening departure. For your arrival, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; for the return, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: from the Royal Docks to a family house up by Putney Heath for a long weekend, then back to the terminal on Monday morning in time for the first meeting of the week. On Boat Race weekend, cars around the river are reserved early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at LCY, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

London City Airport to Putney: Route and Drive Time

Putney is on the south bank in the Wandsworth borough, facing Fulham over the river, and the airport is far off in the east, on the Royal Docks. The road between them is 14 miles, normally 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes. On paper it looks shorter than the run from Heathrow, yet the car has to cross the full width of central London first.

Putney rises from the river in a simple line. Putney Bridge and the Embankment, with its rowing clubs, are at the bottom; the High Street climbs south to the Upper Richmond Road, which carries the South Circular; above that, quieter roads lead up to Putney Heath. The further up the hill you live, the more the last stretch depends on the South Circular. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at London City Airport

London City runs from one terminal. At London City Airport, pre-booked cars collect passengers from the pick-up area in the Short Stay car park. The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

A DLR station is built into the airport, with a train every 8–15 minutes and under 7 minutes to Canning Town. Rail to Putney means several changes across town, which is hard work with a suitcase, while the car takes you and the bags across town in one run. If you do take the train and want a car at Putney station, add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

Arriving at Your Address in Putney

Putney station has South Western Railway trains to Waterloo, and East Putney, on the District line, serves the streets towards Wandsworth. A flat on the Embankment, a house off the High Street and a home near the Heath are reached from different directions, so give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

The Congestion Charge zone does not reach Putney. When you are visiting one of the rowing clubs on the Embankment, put the club name in the address field as well as the street.

From Putney Back to London City Airport

Allow for the drive, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes, rather than for the clock. The route east goes through the busiest part of London, so give a weekday morning flight a generous margin. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

With only one terminal, the booking needs just your flight time and address. Roads by the river get busy on Boat Race day; if your flight falls on that date, choose a pick-up address away from the Embankment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

Docks to Putney by car: roughly how long?

Putney is 14 miles by road, normally 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes; the drive through the centre takes longer than the distance suggests.

Will the chauffeur still be there if my evening flight to London City lands late?

Yes. The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time, so a late landing moves the pick-up too. Add your flight number when you book.

Does the chauffeur come into the London City terminal?

No. Booked cars collect passengers outside, in a dedicated part of Short Stay parking. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Is Putney north or south of the Thames?

South. Putney is on the south bank, in Wandsworth borough, and Fulham faces it on the north bank. Putney Bridge links the two districts.

A group of former rowers is coming for the Boat Race. Can they travel together?

Those on one plane can: a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats. Those on other flights get their own transfers. Book early for race weekend.

What do you need to know about London City Airport in 2026–2027?

2027 is the fortieth year of flying at London City. Putney's rowing season leads on to Henley Royal Regatta, held from 29 June to 4 July 2027.
