Glasgow Airport to Edinburgh: Route and Drive Time
This is a coast-to-coast run across Scotland's central belt. From the terminal at Abbotsinch to the centre of Edinburgh it is 56 miles, normally 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes. The M8 motorway carries most of the journey: it leaves the airport, passes through Glasgow and continues east to the capital.
The ending depends on your district. The EICC and the offices around Haymarket are on the western side of the centre, so they come first. Further in are the castle ridge and the Royal Mile, the Georgian streets of the New Town beyond Princes Street Gardens and Leith, on the Firth of Forth, to the north.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. The hour of departure counts on a run this long, since the stretch past Glasgow is slower at the morning and evening peaks.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Glasgow Airport
Every flight at Glasgow Airport uses one terminal building, beside Paisley. Cars collecting arrivals use the short-stay pick-up and drop-off zone facing the terminal, so the walk with your bags is short.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.
Why land at Glasgow for Edinburgh? The two airports offer different sets of routes, and an airline you prefer may serve only one of them. Glasgow has no railway station, so going on by train means a bus into the city first; a car goes from the terminal directly to an Edinburgh address.

Arriving at Your Address in Edinburgh
Edinburgh's centre has two historic halves. The Old Town climbs from Holyrood to the castle along the Royal Mile, where some streets are narrow or closed to cars. The New Town, laid out in a grid north of Princes Street, holds many offices and hotels. Waverley Bridge, next to the main station, is open only to airport buses.
For a hotel on the Royal Mile or near Waverley, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go. Delegates heading for the EICC at Haymarket, where the largest hall seats up to 2,000, reach it from the western side of the city.
In August, when the Fringe and the Tattoo are on, the Old Town is at its busiest; a detailed address is the best help the chauffeur can have.

From Edinburgh Back to Glasgow Airport
For the way back, count the drive itself rather than the time on the clock: 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes in normal traffic, longer if the city bypass or the M8 around Glasgow is congested. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Glasgow Airport has a single terminal, so whichever airline you fly, the car heads for the same building.
Edinburgh's festival weeks shape the timing. The Fringe runs from 6 to 30 August 2027 and the Military Tattoo on the Castle Esplanade from 6 to 28 August. If you leave from an Old Town hotel in those weeks, start earlier to allow for slow streets in the centre.
