Airport Transfers from Edinburgh Airport (EDI) to Edinburgh

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: the terminal to a guest house in Leith, Edinburgh Airport to a hotel on Princes Street, or a flat in Marchmont to the airport for a very early departure. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time; for a departure, you set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: from the terminal to a flat off the Royal Mile for a Fringe run and back to Edinburgh Airport when the show closes, or to a New Town hotel for a congress at the EICC and out again on the final afternoon. Through August and at Hogmanay, cars go early. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pick-up times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at EDI, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Edinburgh Airport to Edinburgh: Route and Drive Time

Edinburgh Airport lies west of the capital, and from its terminal into the centre of Edinburgh the drive is 8 miles, normally 35–50 minutes. The route comes in from the west through the suburbs and the city traffic of the centre.

Central Edinburgh divides into two parts. The medieval Old Town follows the Royal Mile from the castle to the Holyrood end, and the Georgian New Town faces it over the gardens below Princes Street. Waverley station sits between them, and Haymarket, the second central station, is on the western side, near the EICC conference centre. Leith, the port district, is to the north on the Firth of Forth.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. In August and at Hogmanay the centre is at its busiest, so give the exact street address in the booking, not just the area.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Edinburgh Airport

All airlines at Edinburgh use one terminal building; a record 16.97 million passengers passed through it in 2025, more than any other Scottish airport. For pick-ups, the car waits on the lowest level of the multi-storey car park facing the terminal.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

A tram line connects the airport with the centre, taking about half an hour. If you are travelling with a cello, a costume trunk or a set of golf clubs, a car takes the load with you to the address in one go.

Arriving at Your Address in Edinburgh

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and home to the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood. Visitors stay on or near the Royal Mile, in the squares and crescents of the New Town, around Haymarket for the EICC, or by the water in Leith.

Only airport buses may use Waverley Bridge, and some Old Town lanes are too narrow for cars or shut to them. For a hotel along the Royal Mile or next to Waverley station, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

For a flat in Leith or a hotel in the West End, a house number or the hotel name is usually enough. For a company staying near its festival venue, name the venue address as well as the lodging.

From Edinburgh Back to Edinburgh Airport

Measure the return by the drive, not by the time on the clock: 35–50 minutes when roads are clear, longer at the peaks and through the festival weeks. You set the pick-up time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Edinburgh has a single terminal building for all departures.

Several dates need extra time on the way out. The Festival Fringe runs from 6 to 30 August 2027, and the Military Tattoo is staged on the Castle Esplanade between 6 and 28 August. The Hogmanay programme covers 29 December 2026 to 1 January 2027, with the Street Party on 31 December; allow extra time around then.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How far is Edinburgh Airport from the city centre?

It is 8 miles from the terminal to the centre of Edinburgh, normally 35–50 minutes, with more time needed at rush hour and in August. Add the flight number and your hotel's address when you book.

What if I land in Edinburgh close to midnight?

The car follows your flight. The chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pick-up around the real landing time, so a late or delayed landing just moves the pick-up. The flight number you give when booking is what the chauffeur follows.

Which spot at Edinburgh Airport is the pick-up point?

Edinburgh has one terminal, and collections are at street level in the car park building that faces it. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pick-up rules.

Can any car drive into Edinburgh's Low Emission Zone?

Not every one. Since 1 June 2024 the central zone has been in force day and night; it operates as a prohibition rather than a levy, so a non-compliant vehicle is turned away and cameras record those that enter anyway. The rules and current rates of each charge are published by the authority or airport that runs it.

Our theatre company flies in for the Fringe with sets and costumes. What do we book?

Book per flight: if the cast comes on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. Before choosing a van or coach, tell support how many cases, boxes or sports bags travel with the party, not only the number of passengers.

What do you need to know about Edinburgh Airport in 2026–2027?

Since 24 July 2026 hotels and other accommodation in Edinburgh add a visitor levy, a local tax on overnight stays, to the bill. Hogmanay runs from 29 December 2026 to 1 January 2027, and the 80th Festival Fringe takes place from 6 to 30 August 2027.
