Getting Around Murcia
Murcia is compact. The cathedral square, the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, marks the centre, and the Auditorio y Centro de Congresos Víctor Villegas stands on the Avenida Primero de Mayo, the ring road on the north-east side, about 2 km away by road. INE's hotel survey counted 961,664 overnight stays in the city's hotels in 2025, roughly one in four by foreign guests. From a hotel near the cathedral, the congress hall is a short drive away.
AVE trains from Madrid have reached Murcia del Carmen since December 2022. The station is in the El Carmen district, south of the centre and about 2 km from the cathedral by road, and commuter trains run from it to Alicante and to Lorca. Airport Transfers in Murcia
Murcia is served by two airports. Alicante-Elche is about 75 km north-east by the A-7 and A-70, a drive of 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes; it is the larger airport, with the wider choice of routes. The Región de Murcia International Airport at Corvera is closer, about 25 km south by the A-30, a drive of 35 to 45 minutes. Its schedule leans towards the United Kingdom, with routes to several UK airports in summer.
Both drives are on dual carriageway almost all the way. Journey times vary with traffic and weather.

Long-Distance & Multi-City Travel from Murcia
Cartagena, about 55 km south by the A-30, is close enough for a morning meeting and a return to Murcia for lunch. Lorca, about 80 km west on the A-7, and Alicante, about 80 km north-east, are similar half-day runs.
Further out, Granada is about 280 km west by the A-92N and A-92, and Valencia about 215 km north-east: each a working trip in its own right or a leg of a longer tour. Madrid, about 400 km by the A-30 and A-31, is the furthest. Every one of these trips is reserved as one journey from your Murcia hotel to the destination address, with one chauffeur throughout, at the pickup time you choose.
Groups & Congress Travel in Murcia
Murcia's congress groups gather at the Víctor Villegas. Its main hall, the Sala Narciso Yepes, seats 1,768, and there are 15 meeting rooms besides, so when, for example, a national society fills the hall, its delegates arrive through two airports and the AVE over a day or two. Spring brings a different kind of crowd: on the day of the Bando de la Huerta, the city's tourist office says tens of thousands of people take to the streets in regional dress.
An organiser can set the whole programme up in one account; within it, transfers are reserved one at a time, each with its own confirmation: speakers from Alicante-Elche, a delegation off the AVE at Murcia del Carmen, guests on their way to an evening at the Fuensanta. Where a group moves together, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats.
The dates to book early are Holy Week and the Fiestas de Primavera straight after it, in March or April depending on Easter; the Bando de la Huerta and the Entierro de la Sardina are both Fiestas of International Tourist Interest.
