Getting Around Hamburg

In Hamburg, business and the water sit side by side. The CCH – Congress Center Hamburg stands beside the Planten un Blomen park and the exhibition grounds, right next to Dammtor station, and its operator counts about 8,000 hotel beds in the immediate area. Down on the Elbe, HafenCity holds one of the three cruise terminals; the other two are at Altona and Steinwerder.

Dammtor is served by long-distance trains, so a delegate can step off right next to the congress centre. Add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival.

On the Inner Alster, the Jungfernstieg has been largely closed to private cars since autumn 2020. Buses, taxis, bicycles and deliveries at set hours still use it. If your hotel or office is on the Jungfernstieg, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

For a working day that begins with a session at the CCH and ends with a meeting in HafenCity, reserved by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve.

Airport Transfers in Hamburg

Hamburg Airport lies 13 km north of the centre by road, 25–35 minutes by car; the CCH operator puts the congress centre about 25 minutes from the terminals. Lübeck Airport, 71 km to the north-east, is reached in 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes and has a small schedule, with Ryanair flights to London Stansted, Palma and Málaga in 2026. Bremen Airport is 121 km south-west, 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Hamburg Airport counted about 14.8 million passengers in 2025. The right one depends on your airline and route.

Book with your flight number. For an arrival, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For a departure from Hamburg, what counts is the length of the drive, not the time on the clock: 25–35 minutes to Hamburg Airport from the centre when the city is quiet, more in the morning and late-afternoon peaks. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Multi-City Travel from Hamburg

The Hanseatic cities of the north are all within a morning's drive. Lübeck is 65 km away, 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes, and Travemünde, its port for the ferries to Sweden and Finland, is 83 km, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Bremen is 121 km south-west, 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours; Hanover is 151 km south, 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes. Lübeck's old town has been UNESCO World Heritage since 1987, and Hanover's exhibition grounds have about 392,000 m² of hall space; the Hannover Messe runs from 5 to 8 April 2027. Bremen's Christmas market fills the Marktplatz from 23 November to 23 December 2026.

Berlin is 288 km away, 3 hours 5 minutes to 4 hours 10 minutes. A meeting in the capital and the drive back the same evening make a long but workable day, with your papers and luggage in one car the whole way. The Berlinale runs there from 10 to 21 February 2027.

Each of these journeys is a single booking that runs from your hotel to the destination address, so no one has to change trains or carry cases between platforms.

Groups & Congress Travel in Hamburg

The CCH can hold 12,000 visitors at once in up to 50 halls on four levels. Each May the Hafengeburtstag, the port's birthday festival at the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken, draws its own crowds; the next one runs from 6 to 9 May 2027. Cruise passengers are a third kind of group: ships berth at Altona, Steinwerder or HafenCity, so name the terminal when you book.

When you book for other people, all their transfers can be kept in one account, each with its own booking and confirmation. If delegates arrive on several flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own. For a party travelling on one schedule, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats; the vehicle is matched to the load.

Reserve as soon as your congress dates or sailing are confirmed, and well ahead for the Hafengeburtstag weekend. Local vehicles and drivers are booked up early at those times. If your plans go beyond a standard booking, write to support with the dates, addresses, number of passengers, flights and luggage, and the team will arrange it.

Chauffeur Service in Hamburg

1-12 passengers For business
Trusted by professionals at
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Hamburg Airport to a hotel by the Alster on landing, then the drive out to the terminal once the congress closes. It counts most in congress weeks and in May, when the Hafengeburtstag weekend keeps many cars busy. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pickup times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service is booked by time, not by route. Name the address in Hamburg where the day starts, the address where it finishes and how many hours you want, and one chauffeur and one car are reserved for you for that time. Share the plan for the day when you book, and the chauffeur will have it in advance. It suits a day of meetings or visits rather than one ride across town.
One-Way Service
One-Way Service covers one journey between two addresses: Hamburg Airport to the CCH, the Steinwerder cruise terminal to a hotel in HafenCity, Hamburg to a client in Bremen. For an airport pickup, your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur; for a departure, you set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Hamburg Airport laid out?

There are two terminals, 1 and 2, joined by the Airport Plaza with the central security check, shops and restaurants. The S1 station lies beneath the Plaza, with trains every 10 minutes that reach the Hauptbahnhof in about 25 minutes. Give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.

Where do cruise ships dock in Hamburg?

At one of three cruise terminals: Altona, Steinwerder or HafenCity. Steinwerder lies across the Elbe from the city centre, HafenCity is beside the Speicherstadt, and Altona is to the west. The terminal is stated in your cruise papers; give it with your booking and the car is sent to that terminal.

How does a car reach the Elbphilharmonie?

Until February 2028 the bridge from Baumwall is closed for work on the quay wall at the Kehrwiederspitze, so cars reach HafenCity over the Brooksbrücke, about 500 m further on, and Auf dem Sande. Leaving the Elbphilharmonie is not affected. For a concert evening, send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

What do you need to know about Hamburg in 2026–2027?

The Hafengeburtstag returns from 6 to 9 May 2027, and cars around the port are in demand that weekend. All of Hamburg's cruise terminals are being fitted with shore power from 2026.
