Airport Transfers from Hamburg Airport (HAM) to Hamburg

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Terminal 2 to the CCH at Dammtor, Terminal 1 to a hotel on the Inner Alster, or the Steinwerder cruise centre to the airport after a voyage. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time; for a departure, you set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Terminal 1 or 2 to the HafenCity cruise centre on embarkation day, and from the same terminal back to the airport when the ship returns. The sailing and return dates are on the cruise ticket, so both rides can be set at once; congress delegates can do the same with their programme. With both directions in one booking, the return is secured from the start; you set both pickup times yourself, and the confirmation lists them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at HAM, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Hamburg Airport to Hamburg: Route and Drive Time

The airport sits in Fuhlsbüttel, on the northern side of the city itself, so the usual route into town runs on city roads rather than a motorway. It is 13 km to the centre, normally 25–35 minutes, and the morning and late-afternoon peaks push it towards the longer figure.

Where the drive ends changes the last few kilometres. The CCH congress centre beside Dammtor station is on the near side of the Alster. The cruise centres lie by the Elbe: HafenCity about 12 km from the terminals and Altona about 13 km, both 25–35 minutes, while Steinwerder on the south bank is roughly 22 km, 30–40 minutes, because the car has to cross the river.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Name the hotel, the congress hall or the cruise centre printed on your ticket, not just the district.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Hamburg Airport

HAM has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, linked by the Airport Plaza, where the central security area is and the S-Bahn station lies underneath. The terminal on your ticket decides which side of the Plaza you come out on, so give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.

The S1 reaches the Hauptbahnhof in about 25 minutes, which works with a carry-on. With a week of cruise luggage, a pushchair or a delegate's case of samples, the car takes you from the terminal to the address itself, with no transfer at the station.

Arriving at Your Address in Hamburg

Hotels and offices line the Inner Alster, and since autumn 2020 the Jungfernstieg along its southern edge has been closed to most private traffic and left to public transport, cycles and timed deliveries. For an address on that street, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

Delegates usually head for the CCH, which sits between the Planten un Blomen park and the exhibition halls; its operator counts about 8,000 hotel beds nearby. Cruise passengers go to the centre named on the ticket: HafenCity next to the Speicherstadt, Altona to the west, or Steinwerder across the Elbe. Ships are not tracked, so a drop-off at the terminal is planned around your boarding time, not the ship's arrival.

From Hamburg Back to Hamburg Airport

On the way out, plan by the length of the drive: from the Alster or Dammtor the terminals are 25–35 minutes away on a quiet day, more in the commuter peaks. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Departures leave from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2; the ticket names yours, and the car pulls up at that building, which saves the walk across the Plaza with luggage.

After a cruise, the ride usually starts at the terminal on disembarkation morning. Because the ship itself is not tracked, choose a pickup time that leaves room for collecting cases and leaving the hall. On the Hafengeburtstag weekend in May, the roads around the Landungsbrücken are crowded, so a hotel near the harbour needs a wider margin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

Can the car take me to the Elbphilharmonie?

It can take you to the area. The bridge from Baumwall is shut until February 2028 for repairs to the quay wall at Kehrwiederspitze, so visitors walk in via the Brooksbrücke, about 500 m, and Auf dem Sande. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

How often does the S1 run from Hamburg Airport?

The S-Bahn station lies beneath the Airport Plaza, and the S1 leaves every 10 minutes. With a week of cruise luggage or a case of exhibition material, the car from the terminal avoids the change at the Hauptbahnhof.

Which vehicles may use the Jungfernstieg?

Since autumn 2020 the street has been largely closed to cars; buses, taxis, bicycles and deliveries may use it at set hours. For a hotel address there, send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Can the car take me from the airport straight to my cruise ship?

It takes you to the cruise centre named on your ticket: Altona, HafenCity or Steinwerder. Enter that terminal's address as your destination. Since nobody follows the ship's position, you pick the time for the homeward ride yourself when booking.

We exhibit at the CCH with display cases and rolled posters. Which vehicle do we need?

Name the cases when you book: the vehicle is matched to the load. For the whole stand team, a Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats.

What do you need to know about Hamburg Airport in 2026–2027?

The airport handled about 14.8 million passengers in 2025 and expects slight growth in 2026, with new routes such as Amman, Marrakesh and Tallinn. In the city, the Hafengeburtstag takes place from 6 to 9 May 2027.
