From the airport north to Ludwigsburg it is 40 km, 40–55 minutes on an average day, and the town lies on the far side of Stuttgart. The usual route goes round Stuttgart rather than through it: the A8 west from the Filder plateau, then the A81 north, and finally the L1140 into town.

In Ludwigsburg itself, the town centre is laid out around the baroque Residenzschloss and the gardens of the Blühendes Barock. The Forum am Schlosspark and the MHPArena stand at the edge of the park, while company sites such as the MANN+HUMMEL headquarters are further out. Base the pickup on the drive time: from the centre of Ludwigsburg to the terminals it is 40–55 minutes outside the peak hours, longer when the A81 and the A8 are in their morning queues. The Ludwigsburg calendar adds its own pressure. On weekends of the pumpkin exhibition and during the three days of the Venezianische Messe, the streets near the palace and the Marktplatz fill early, and in Advent the Barock-Weihnachtsmarkt takes over the Marktplatz. A pickup from a hotel close to either needs extra margin.

After an evening show at the MHPArena, a guest with an early flight can be collected at the hotel the next morning rather than late at night.

Can I take the S-Bahn from Stuttgart Airport to Ludwigsburg?

Only with a change. The S2 and S3 run from the airport station under Terminal 1 to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof in 27 minutes, and Ludwigsburg station on the S4 and S5 is about 15 minutes from there. A car goes round Stuttgart on the A8 and A81 and ends at your door.

Where is the best place to be dropped for a show at the Forum am Schlosspark or the MHPArena?

Both stand at the edge of the park beside the palace, so the car can end the trip there rather than in the centre. Add the name of the venue and the entrance you need to the booking.

How do we reach the Marktplatz during the Barock-Weihnachtsmarkt?

In Advent the market takes over the Marktplatz, and the city itself advises bus and train for it because parking around the centre is tight. A pickup needs no parking space: give the nearest street or hotel entrance, and the confirmation shows where the car will stop.
