Hamburg Airport to Lubeck: Route and Drive Time
Lübeck lies north-east of Hamburg, close to the Baltic. The drive from HAM is 71 km, usually 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes. After the airport roads the car joins the A1 towards the coast; the Hamburg motorway junctions decide which end of that range you get.
At the far end, three destinations give three different last stretches. The Hauptbahnhof sits just west of the old town, so it comes first. The old town itself is an island ringed by water, entered past the Holstentor, with hotels and offices packed into narrow streets. Travemünde, the seaside district with the ferry quays, lies further on at the mouth of the Trave.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. For the island, the exact street and number matter more than the district name, because some lanes look alike on a map.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Hamburg Airport
HAM handles flights through two buildings, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, with the Airport Plaza in the middle; your boarding pass or e-ticket shows which one you land at, and that is where the car comes. A single security area sits on the Plaza, above the S-Bahn platforms.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.
Lübeck has its own small airport, but for international travel Hamburg, with some 55 airlines and around 120 direct destinations, is the obvious gateway. A long-haul trip via a hub often finishes at HAM, and the transfer runs from there to Lübeck without a change of train in the city.

Arriving at Your Address in Lubeck
UNESCO added the medieval old town to the World Heritage List in 1987. The Holstentor, the 15th-century gate on its western side, faces the station. Hotels, museums and offices stand close together there, so a booking needs the exact door, not only the old town.
The Hauptbahnhof, with about 31,000 passengers a day, is the busiest station in Schleswig-Holstein, a practical drop-off if you continue by regional train.
Ferry passengers have a different target: the Skandinavienkai in Travemünde, from where TT-Line sails to Trelleborg, Finnlines to Malmö and Helsinki, and Stena Line to Liepāja. Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up; for the ferry, add the operator and sailing time.

From Lubeck Back to Hamburg Airport
To time the trip home, work backwards from the drive itself: from the old town to the terminals it is 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes on a clear road, more when the A1 slows near Hamburg. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
At HAM, the car goes to Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, as printed on your ticket.
Two parts of the year need a wider margin on the Lübeck side. In the weeks before Christmas, the markets on the island fill the streets in the afternoon and evening. In summer, the ferry season keeps Travemünde busy, and a sailing that docks late shortens the time left for the airport. If you arrive on a ferry and fly the same day, book the pickup at the quay, not at a hotel. Boats from Trelleborg, Malmö, Helsinki or Liepāja all end at the same Skandinavienkai.
