Hamburg Airport to Elmshorn: Route and Drive Time
Elmshorn lies on the A23 north-west of Hamburg, a little further out than Pinneberg. From the terminals it is 36 km, normally 40–55 minutes: the first part through the city's northern districts, then the motorway to the Elmshorn junction.
Whether you get the shorter or the longer time depends mainly on the city section before the A23, which slows down in the commuter hours. Once the car leaves the motorway, the town is compact. The station sits close to the centre, and the old harbour on the Krückau lies just beyond it, while the food plants and business parks are spread around the edge of town.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. If you are heading on by train, name the station; for a company visit, give the gate or reception address rather than the head-office address.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Hamburg Airport
At HAM, arrivals come out at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, the two buildings on each side of the Airport Plaza. The Plaza holds the central security check, with the S-Bahn station beneath it. Give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.
By rail, the route to Elmshorn runs through Hamburg: the S1 from the airport station into the city, then a regional train out again. With a toddler, a wheelchair or several cases, the car from the terminal avoids both platforms and arrives at the address in one go.

Arriving at Your Address in Elmshorn
No town in the Pinneberg district is bigger than Elmshorn, home to about 51,000 people, and no municipality in Schleswig-Holstein is more densely built up. Its harbour on the Krückau once served whalers and shipyards; today food production leads the local economy, and the oat-flake maker Peter Kölln runs a large plant here.
At the station, the main line from Hamburg divides: one branch heads for Kiel, one for Westerland on Sylt and a third for Bad Oldesloe. A traveller who lands at HAM and wants to continue by train can be dropped there instead of in the city, which avoids the busy Hamburg stations.
Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop. For a delivery gate or a works entrance, add the name of the person expecting you.

From Elmshorn Back to Hamburg Airport
Going out to the airport, what matters is how long the drive takes: from the centre of Elmshorn, 40–55 minutes to the terminals early in the morning or late in the evening, more once commuters fill the A23 towards Hamburg. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
At HAM, the car pulls up at whichever building your ticket names, Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.
Someone who has arrived in Elmshorn by train from Kiel or from Sylt can be collected at the station rather than at a home address; add the train and its arrival time to the booking, and the car is scheduled for that arrival. That way the journey to the flight starts on the platform's doorstep.
A guest leaving the Stadttheater Elmshorn in Klostersande can be collected at the venue like at any other address.
