Frankfurt Airport to Ludwigshafen: Route and Drive Time
Ludwigshafen am Rhein lies to the south, on the Rhine's west bank in Rhineland-Palatinate. The transfer covers 85 km and takes 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes: the A5 heads south, and the A6 carries the car west over the Rhine north of the city, so the drive from the airport does not depend on the bridges in the centre.
The last stretch depends on where you are going. The BASF Verbund site runs for kilometres along the river on the northern side, and the gate on your invitation decides where the car turns off. The city centre and the Parkinsel, a green island in the Rhine, are further south.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. For BASF, write the gate number or building code from your visitor pass into the booking; the street address alone is not enough on a site of that size.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt has two passenger terminals in use, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, the latter opened in April 2026, while Terminal 2 is closed for refurbishment. The SkyLine train between the two takes about eight minutes, so a wrong terminal is a real detour. Give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.
For the arrival, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.
On a business trip with different airlines out and back, the terminals can differ too: you may land at Terminal 3 and fly home from Terminal 1. Enter each terminal with its own leg, so the return transfer goes to the building your departing flight uses.

Arriving at Your Address in Ludwigshafen
BASF was founded in Ludwigshafen in 1865, and its Verbund site here is the largest connected chemical complex in the world: 10 km², with about 33,000 people on the payroll, close to one in three of all BASF staff worldwide. Reception, offices and plants can be kilometres apart, each with its own gate.
The city faces Mannheim across the Rhine. Motor traffic lost the Kurt-Schumacher-Brücke on 1 August 2026: the crossing is shut to cars for roughly four years during the replacement of the Hochstraße Nord, and vehicles now reach the other bank via the renewed Hochstraße Süd. For a hotel near the river or a meeting on the Mannheim side, the route inside the city changes.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For the BASF site, the gate is part of the address.

From Ludwigshafen Back to Frankfurt Airport
The drive back takes 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, so plan around that and not around a fixed hour; leave more room in the morning, when the A5 northbound fills up, and for any trip that has to cross the city while the bridge is shut. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
At FRA, the car goes to the terminal of your departing flight, Terminal 1 or Terminal 3.
In late summer, the Festival des deutschen Films turns the Parkinsel into an open-air cinema, with more than 100,000 visitors a year, and the area around it is busy in the evenings. A visitor leaving after a meeting at BASF can be collected at the same gate where the car dropped them off. On weekday evenings, weekends and holidays, visitors report at Tor 2, so that gate is the natural pickup point then.
