Düsseldorf Airport to Herten: Route and Drive Time
Herten is in the north of the Ruhr, north-east of the airport, in the Recklinghausen district. The trip covers 60 km and takes 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes: the A52 and the A3 bring you to the A2, which runs across the northern Ruhr to the town.
Dortmund Airport is closer to Herten, but DUS offers the wider choice of flights, for holidays and business alike, so the longer drive can be the better option. Within Herten, the final few minutes depend on the district: the former Ewald colliery, the castle park of Schloss Herten and the old houses of Westerholt are spread across the town.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Put the flight number and the full address in the booking, including the district for Westerholt.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Düsseldorf Airport
In summer, flights to Spain, Turkey, Greece and Italy are in high demand at DUS. A family from Herten coming back from such a trip passes through the airport's one terminal, made up of three piers, so the booking does not need a terminal. From 14 December 2026, Corendon Airlines adds a nonstop flight to Curaçao three times a week.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.
After a holiday flight with children, the drive of about an hour is easier in one car than on a series of trains. The suitcases go in the boot at the terminal and come out again at your front door in Herten.

Arriving at Your Address in Herten
Herten, with about 60,700 inhabitants, belongs to the Recklinghausen district and owes its shape to coal. Mining began in 1872 and ended in 2008. Where Ewald's shafts once worked, a visitor centre now explains renewable energy, and those grounds are among the town's best-known addresses.
The older town has a different face. Schloss Herten is a moated castle of red brick from the 14th century, set in a park, and the Westerholt district keeps a cluster of half-timbered houses. Since December 2022, Herten has also had an S-Bahn station again.
Herten lies inside the Ruhr low-emission zone. Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For Ewald, name the visitor centre or the building you are going to, as the site is large.

From Herten Back to Düsseldorf Airport
For the trip out, base the pickup time on the length of the drive: 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes to the terminal, more if the A2 or the A3 are congested. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
DUS sends every flight from its single terminal, so the car needs only your flight number.
On the town side, early holiday flights are the classic case. A family leaving Westerholt for a morning departure in the summer holidays should set the pickup with the full 1 hour 15 minutes in mind, plus the time the airline asks for check-in. The S-Bahn station, open since December 2022, links Herten with Recklinghausen, Essen, Wuppertal and Hagen; a pickup there is an address like any other. A pickup at Zeche Ewald needs the name of the building.
