Dortmund Airport to Remscheid: Route and Drive Time
Remscheid is a town of the Bergisches Land, south-west of the airport and beyond Hagen. Almost the whole trip is on the A1: 62 km, usually 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes by car. With one motorway carrying nearly the entire route, a single jam near Hagen or at the Wuppertal junctions can move the arrival time more than anything in town.
Remscheid is a hill town, and its districts sit some distance apart on the ridges. Lennep, the old town where Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was born, lies 6 km from the centre, 15–20 minutes by car, so the district matters as much as the street. The industrial addresses, such as the Vaillant head office on Berghauser Straße, are separate destinations again.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. When you book, give the district along with the street and your flight number.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Dortmund Airport
Every passenger at DTM passes through one terminal, so the booking needs no terminal and there is only one building to come out of. For Remscheid it is not the nearest airport; travellers choose it for its routes, above all Wizz Air's flights to Poland, Romania and the Balkans, which Düsseldorf and Cologne Bonn do not always match.
While you are in the air, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.
After a flight, an hour on the motorway is easier to plan when the start of the ride is certain. Book with the flight number, and a delay simply moves the departure from the terminal; the drive to Remscheid runs without a change at Dortmund Hauptbahnhof or in Wuppertal.

Arriving at Your Address in Remscheid
Lennep is the district visitors ask for first. Röntgen, the discoverer of X-rays, was born here in 1845, and since 1932 the Deutsches Röntgen-Museum, on the edge of the old town, has been the one museum anywhere devoted entirely to the man and his rays. Physicians, radiographers and school groups come to see it.
Remscheid also has a long industrial history. The Vaillant Group, a family company founded in 1874 that makes heating and ventilation systems, directs its German and international operations from Remscheid. Close by, Schloss Burg stands above the Wupper, 9 km away, and the Müngstener Brücke, the highest railway bridge in Germany, spans the valley towards Solingen.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For the museum, give the entrance on Schwelmer Straße.

From Remscheid Back to Dortmund Airport
For your departure, the drive is the figure to plan with: 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes from Remscheid to the terminal, and more when the A1 near Hagen is congested in the afternoon. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
DTM's departures all leave from its one terminal, and the car pulls up there for every airline. In Remscheid, a pickup in Lennep is close to the motorway, while one in the centre or near Schloss Burg starts with a run over the hills, which adds time before the A1.
For an early morning flight, a pickup timed to reach the A1 before the commuter traffic towards Hagen and Dortmund builds up is the safer choice. The Deutsches Werkzeugmuseum lies in Hasten, in the north-west of Remscheid, so a pickup there is a different run from one in Lennep.
