Cologne Bonn Airport to Cologne: Route and Drive Time
The airport stands on the Wahner Heide, south-east of the city, and the A559 leads from there towards the centre. The trip is 17 km and normally takes 30–40 minutes; the Rhine bridges in the morning and late-afternoon peaks are what push it towards the higher figure.
Which side of the river you need changes the picture. The Koelnmesse in Deutz sits on the right bank, the same side as the airport, about 14 km from the terminals and 30–40 minutes away; driving to the fairground, you never cross the Rhine. Across the water, on the left bank, lie the Dom with the old town around it, the big shopping streets, Ehrenfeld and Bayenthal; getting there means using one of the bridges.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. In the booking, name the hall or gate for the fair, and the hotel or street for an address in town.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Cologne Bonn Airport
Arrivals at CGN come out in one of two buildings. Eurowings and Lufthansa mainly use Terminal 1, while Ryanair and a range of other airlines fly from Terminal 2; the two are linked by a landside walkway of about ten minutes. Give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.
An exhibitor often travels with display material checked in as hold luggage, and on the opening day of a fair those cases have to reach the stand before the doors open. List those cases in the booking; a car with space for them is then assigned.

Arriving at Your Address in Cologne
On the left bank, the old town around the cathedral is dense, and some streets near the Rhine promenade are narrow or closed to traffic. The low-emission zone (Umweltzone) spans 137 km² on both banks, and only vehicles with a green sticker may drive in. If your hotel is in the pedestrian streets of the old town, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.
On the right bank, the Koelnmesse has 284,000 m² of halls and two congress centres, East and North, with 19,500 seats between them. The grounds are large, so the gate or the congress centre is the better target than the street name.
Rail travellers have two long-distance stations to choose from: Köln Hauptbahnhof next to the cathedral, with ICE and Eurostar trains, and Köln Messe/Deutz beside the fair entrance.

From Cologne Back to Cologne Bonn Airport
For the return, the length of the drive is what you plan around: from the centre to the terminals it is 30–40 minutes in ordinary traffic, more when the bridges are congested. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
Starting from Deutz is the easy case, as the fair, the airport and the road between them are all on the right bank. From a hotel near the cathedral, the car crosses the Rhine first, which at rush hour can take longer than the motorway section.
The calendar matters more than the clock. In the Carnival days from Weiberfastnacht on 4 February 2027 to 9 February, streets in the centre close for the parades, and on the last day of a big fair, departures tend to bunch together. An exhibitor flying out that evening can be collected at the hall entrance.
