Getting Around Obergurgl
Obergurgl is where the Ötztal ends. The village sits at 1,930 m, and Hochgurgl, a cluster of hotels at 2,150 m, lies over 200 m higher, further up the Timmelsjoch road. On skis, the Top Express links the two in nine minutes, so they share a ski area but not a street.
The railway is far away. Ötztal Bahnhof, at the valley entrance, is about 52 km down the road, and from there a bus climbs the whole valley. With a week's luggage and skis, a car from the station saves the longest leg of the journey. Give us the train and its arrival time and the car is booked to meet it.
For an evening away from the valley head, Sölden is about 14 km below, with Zwieselstein on the way. Booked by the hour, one chauffeur and one vehicle stay with you for the time you reserve, and the drive back up the valley comes with it.
Hochgurgl is not part of Obergurgl's village street: it is a separate hotel settlement higher up the pass road, linked by lift rather than a walk. Send the full address with your booking; the confirmation then tells you where the car will stop.

Airport Transfers to Obergurgl
Innsbruck is the airport to aim for: about 100 km, an hour and a half, give or take. Munich, about 245 km, and Zurich, about 295 km, take well over three hours and suit you only if the flights are markedly better.
Every route reaches the A12 and leaves it at the Ötztal exit. From there the B186 runs 52 km up the valley through Längenfeld, Sölden and Zwieselstein, and above Sölden the road climbs in steps to the valley head. The whole Ötztal shares that one road below Obergurgl, so a winter Saturday adds time to the final stretch.
Book with the flight number: your chauffeur checks the flight status and times the pickup to when you actually land, and your booking confirmation shows where to meet the chauffeur. For the flight home, you set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.

Long-Distance & Cross-Border Travel from Obergurgl
No train reaches the Ötztal: from Ötztal Bahnhof to Obergurgl is 52 km of road. So any move later in the trip starts with the whole length of the valley. Innsbruck is about 100 km away for a city stay, Sölden is the next resort down, and Ischgl lies a few valleys further west. By car the hotel-to-hotel move is one booking.
Munich, about 245 km away, is where some trips begin or end. Italy is closer in summer: the Timmelsjoch border road above Hochgurgl opens only between roughly June and October, and Merano lies beyond it. A journey across either border is booked as usual, with one chauffeur and one vehicle and no change of car at the frontier. Both countries are in Schengen, and checks on internal borders come and go, so each passenger should carry the travel documents their nationality and itinerary require.

Groups, Ski Equipment & Winter Travel in Obergurgl
The Timmelsjoch road above Hochgurgl is closed all winter, so the valley road from the Ötztal exit is the only way to Obergurgl, and the University of Innsbruck's own arrival page tells visitors to bring snow chains. Austrian law requires winter tyres from 1 November to 15 April whenever roads are wintry, and buses are fitted with them for the whole season regardless of the weather.
Groups here are not only ski parties. The Universitätszentrum Obergurgl, the University of Innsbruck's conference centre at the edge of the pistes, brings academic groups who arrive together outside the usual changeover pattern. For any group, the luggage decides the vehicle. A Sprinter van carries up to 12 people with their bags, and bigger groups go by coach, with up to 56 seats. Tell us what is coming along, and the vehicle is matched to the load. For separate flights, every arrival gets a transfer of its own.
For ski weeks, the Christmas and New Year holidays and Saturdays through the season are the dates to fix first, when local vehicles and drivers are booked up early. For a conference group or any other non-standard plan, speak to support and they will put the arrangement together.
